Does every video with a brit HAVE to be tagged British?

I'm looking at you House fans...

I mean, should a video of a person talking on American tv about American issues with American in-jokes who just happens to be British be tagged for this channel? I really don't think so. It was this video that set me off:

They don't even pronouce his name right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Travesty? What does everybody else think?

Yeah, I also have to agree that this (my video btw) is a case in which it could've been left untagged as British. Case in point - I'm a "Channel Nazi", if you will, and I wasn't in a hurry when I submitted this one - yet I still forgot to add it to "British"

This could be a precedent for future submissions, but then it should be made note of in the FAQ. Which is another example/reason why we'd do well with a ruby+ moderated WikiFAQ (dag, lucky - looking at you).

Ah, well, the Gervais one should be british. Whether or not a House clip should is a bit more grey area. I think it should, but that's just me.

Even ignoring the British accent? I mean, if that's reason enough shouldn't we have a redstates channel? (heh heh heh... that'd be kinda funny actually)

He's a brit being british -> british.

The reason we don't have a redstates channel is that no one has made one.

House could as easily have been an american, which is why we could probably argue both ways. If he does something that can be classified as british (accent or something), I would probably put it in that channel.

We can change the tag to *subpardentistry if you prefer, but we really think the British tag is a bit more appropriate, no?

Hey hey, you don't start that and we won't start *moreteethshowingthanisinanywaypleasing.....

A dentist once told me that the rift in dental practice came about when the European dentists decided to bow to evolution's will and shape our teeth to fit our shrinking jawlines whereas american dentists are all like "change teeth to reflect modern diets? Nah, let's fuck with the jaw til they all fit..."

I've never looked this up, hence it is obviously fact.

ant had labeled a video (http://www.videosift.com/video/LOLrio-Kart-45mph-shopping-cart) #asia a while ago because there's an asian guy in it. I posed the following question: if there was an #africa channel, would you put every video with a black person in it?

There was nothing asian about the video. It takes place in Massachusetts. There was no element of asian culture. That the guy in the cart is asian has no impact on the video.

The Ricky Gervais example above, however, I feel is a bit different. Ricky is a celebrity and being british is a significant part of his fame. Ask yourself, if someone is browsing #british, is this likely to be what they're looking for? I'd say yes, there's a good chance this is the kind of thing they're looking for. On the other hand, if someone is browsing #asia, I'd say it's more likely they're looking for anime, martial arts, asian music, Issy's recipes, incredibly stupid game shows or some really fucked up porn.

UP's comment is also right on the money. #Femme should be a channel to be proud of. Women artists, athletes, visionaries, leaders... women's issues: abortion, rape, equality, feminism, suffrage. http://femme.videosift.com/video/Age-Old-Myth-Tested-The-Old-Carrot-On-The-Stick does not need to be in femme.

I don't think we go far enough. Any video that includes crumpets, revolting tea, poor dental hygiene, or humor of the dry or absurd variety should unequivocally be called *british.

Zifnab says...

If a prominent Brit is a major part of the video, then it should be in the British channel. After all it's for all things British and is titled "British Invasion". So Brits invading America fit quite nicely.
