Anliz sift talk discarded

I didn't know you could discard sift talk posts. Is this ignorant of me or am I missing something? Can you self discard them, along with all the comments?

This has all been corrected. The not-so-technical explanation is that there were discarded videos with the identical titles and those were the ones being displayed.

Should be running smoothly now.

"anyway, on a related note, this vid is up and running with lots of votes and comments, but when i open it it's labeled 'discarded' & has no comments:

http://swampgirl.videosift.com/video/John-Coltrane-My-Favourite-Things"

Pigeon, I think I know why. When I originally posted it, I sort of screwed up and backed spaced to fix something instead of editing. It resulted in a discard before I finally got the post up in the queue.

I don't know why it would still be associated with the live post though...

I think a little more information should be provided about why this happened as many could misconstrue this as self censorship on the behalf of the Sift Overlords.

Because it seems odd that only that post got affected and not others.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Not only Anliz's post was effected. Any post that had a duplicate title was - as SwampGirl noted above. Duplicate titles would most often happen from someone doing a draft, discarding and making a new one with the same title.

Because the new URL system uses the title to make the url, it looks for the first post with the matching title, in most cases it would find the discarded one first, as it has a lower post number. I hope this clears it up.

Edit: Can we refer to this as "AnlizGate"? I love a good conspiracy.

Good question, winkler. We've designed it so the friendly URL will not change so links will not break. So, if a person were to title a video "title fu bar" the url will be "/video/title-fu-bar" and if they change it to "title foobar" that won't change. If someone else comes along and titles their video "title foobar" it will not collide with the first video as its new url will be "/video/title-foobar".
