You got my attention with your title. It's a cool idea. Micropayments are tough though - unless we sell 10 credits at a time or soemthing.

Don't thikn it's a good idea myself, but that's not to say there isn't a way to use that idea to another end. To MAKE it be the top video, that not only corrupts the whole thing (cos it might not be the best), but it will push other vids that might have been top further down. Which pushes down top15 vids off the top15 slot and they never get the true recognition they deserve because video votes really start to pickup pace when they hit top15 and everyone can see em.

P'raps you can pay to have your video displayed in a certain area to give it more publicity than other vids, the effect of a top15 video without it being a top15 video.

We can already buy power points, which should probably be made more clearly, but I would not like it if someone could just buy a top 15 place for a video, it would break the entire purpose of the site.

it may end up attracting viral marketing vids or just plain old advertisements.. not that there's anything wrong with this in principle.. people would still have the choice to downvote it or just not watch it at all.. i dunno.. can u buy 'featured' spots on youtube? how much do they go for?

yah it would be made clear that its outside of the democratic process. i dont see a problem if its isolated from the rest of the sift siting at the top of the website. the point is is that if u don't like it it would only cos you a small amount to replace it . if you wanted to you could buy credit in balk say its USD5 to get 5 points allowing you to change the video 5 times.

the problem with power points and these other systems is thay are inbeded within the website and really the majority of users just don't care ore don't get it, in some ways my idea is still needlessly complicated, u need something that monatises users that really don't care what the sift is because that's the majority of people that come on the site. evan though there is a good core community i don't know if there would be an affective way to monatise them all , as you would probably need $30 of everyone to make a significant amount of money from them.

how about a video sift tv typ web page where it automatically streams the highest voted content clip buy clip maby there would be some way to paint this with adverts so that it can generate a significant CPM ?

you could lock down the whole site and force everyone to pay 3USD to access it lol.
