A "sports" channel?

Was that so obvious that we missed it? Lord knows there are plenty of sports clips already on the Sift, and it is commonplace enough to be a section of our daily newspapers and local newscasts. Should be plenty of material for it in the future, as well...

theo, since it doesn't look like the admins want to add action, travel, etc. .. you'll have to make those "channels" yerself. It only takes like five minutes and very little work to maintain a "Collective"

Make on for sports.videosift.com and invite some folks and then it's pretty hands off. But in the long run helps pseudo categorize videos.

joe, Rule #1 in making websites for the general public is "Don't make me think."

If the idea is to attract more and more people to the Sift, better to K.I.S.S.; keep it simple, stupid.

I'd much rather have the option to one-click the subject during a submission than worry about collectives or playlists or whatever.

I just don't get how we can have *vintage, *animation and something so broad as an *art channel yet still be lacking a *sports channel. I agree that too may channels could get confusing, for example, an Iron Chef clip, where the food looks artsy and there is a funny announcer, and it is for some reason outside, and prepared for the Presidents luncheon or something could have *sports *cooking (assuming there would be a cooking channel) *nature *politics *comedy *art, but that would be very unlikely. A sports channel would definatly be good though, considering almost all the sports clips posted don't fit into any other channels.

BTW, if a *sports channel is out of the question, I hope to be getting a gold star within the month and if nobody else wants to, I would love to host a sports collective.

Sorry, didn't want to burst your bubble Oatmeal. Bein workin out a collective Sports idea for a little while now. I should have one done by the end of today.

Any suggestions for appropriate name? Sport/Sports/Wide World of Sports/Professional Sports?

What sort of tone should it take ? I like the idea of it being very broad focusing mainly on professional sports of any kind/ olympic events/ world cups/ series/ interviews/ records/ tributes etc, etc..

two playlists i ve got are the sort of things i d include -

http://www.videosift.com/playlist/michie/Sporting-Legends
http://www.videosift.com/playlist/michie/Goons

as you can see i m a gooner. so it'd be really cool if people posted videos of their own sporting allegiances and passions.

come one come all, you just gotta be a sports fan.

Great! I'm glad someone is doing a sports collective. As for the name... someting simple like "Sports" or "Sport Sift" might be good. And as for content, I had always envisioned professional sports, olympic sports, and any great plays from amature sports as well, basically, anything that make you say "nice!". As for guys on sakeboards/rollerblades, losing their teeth/testicles, vids like that should probably be kept out as they do not really highlight the beauty of the sport. Though, I could see a video like a soccer goalie bouncing the ball off his own teamates head into his own net or a really bad ski crash, as they show sort of the funny and dangerous sides of professional competition. Pretty much any non-darwinian blooper/crash would be ok. Anyways, theese are just my suggestions, hope they help.

michie how about some branded name, espn has branded sports highlights like sports center. We actually have the sports.videosift subdomain reserved because we've always intended to add a sports channel, we just didn't think we had a large enough sports userbase to support that. Perhaps we have finally gotten to the point where that is not true as evidenced by this thread.
