Would you be interested in seeing more original blog posts, articles and Sift Talk posts on the front page from the community? This could be stuff like:

1. Member blog posts
2. Movie or TV reviews by Sifters
3. Things like the History of VideoSift
4. A weekly "Best of the Sift" round-up post

Or do you prefer your VideoSift stirred, not shaken up - with pure video only on the front page.

I'm not expressing a preference either way - but I'd be genuinely interested to know what you all think.

Going with no, purely because most blog posts or frontpaged items take up a significant amount of real estate and push the videos down a fair bit, and I just want my videos.

However, if they were say single text line items within a thin box, I think that might be okay. Simply text like:

"Current Poll: Would you like to see more articles on the front page?"

or

"Blog Post: The History of Videosift Part I"

that could work I think. Very minimal, but draw attention.

I really enjoy sift talk and blog posts (beyond 'should we make a minor tweak to sift rules' blah blah ones).

I reckon they should be worth big points - they take time and effort to produce.

I don't mind the articles and I encourage them.
It would, however, depend on HOW they are featured on the front page.
(top right square teaser with a link maybe). I would not want the articles to take center stage as, currently, this IS a video site. The videos should always be the main focus on the front page.

I especially like to see blogs and articles written by sifters, it encourages us to learn a little about our fellow sifters and in a community like ours, that's not a bad thing.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

That's good input. Maybe something like the Sift of the Week - in the sidebar, and we collapse the actual Sift of the Week to save space.
