Yeah, we happy.

But we'd be even happier if you could add small visual indicators for length and nsfw.

And while we're at it, any chance of a uniform height for the drop down menu items? For instance, "Search" and "Submit Video" require me to scroll down no matter what, so they might as well have the same height as all the other items within the "Watch" tree, giving it a more unform look & feel.

police officer body slams teen in cuffs

newtboy says...

One more douchebag in uniform. Is there another kind?
I'm guessing someone will say this is both justified (she kind of kicked in his direction, so of course slamming her face to the ground as hard as possible is the appropriate reaction...if you wear a uniform) and also excuse this as 'only the bad act of a single officer, not representative of all others, most of which are good people'.

I'm betting all who read this can guess exactly how much respect I have for either of those tired arguments.

Siri, What Is Zero Divided By Zero?

modulous says...

http://videosift.com/video/Numberphile-Problems-with-the-Number-Zero

Skip to 10 minutes for 0/0 if you don't want the background. A quick spoiler clue is that x/x = 1; Also, 0 x 0 = 0, which implies the answer is 0. Indeed, there are a number of different mathematical constructs one can make to demonstrate that the answer is any number one likes.

Mathematics needs to be uniform and consistent, and an operation that can return infinite legitimate values depending on your approach is a disaster as far as this is concerned. Suddenly the whole enterprise of mathematics is ruined. Better to call 0/0 undefined.

Into English and cookies. How many cookies does nobody get when you don't divide cookies among no people? Does this make sense?

Into speed. If I am travelling at speed and you want to measure it you need distance travelled and time taken. If I travelled 100 kilometres in 1 hour you can say I'm travelling 100kph. If I travelled 50 kilometres in half an hour (50 / 0.5) , you can say the same thing. 25km in quarter of an hour (25 / 0.25) and so on and so forth. All come out at 100kph. But what if you decide to measure how far I travel in 0 seconds? I travel 0 metres. 0 / 0 = ? 0kph? And if you took this narrowly focussed measurement every few seconds you would see that my speed remains at 0kph but I manage to cover 100km in an hour anyway. Maths is now broke

I understand why for n > 0 n/0 is indeterminate but I'm not convinced 0/0 isn't simply 0. If you have zero cookies and split them amongst zero friends then nobody gets anything so zero?

Cops doing good deeds

Nephelimdream says...

This is all fine and dandy, and kudos to people who take time to help others, but in my experiences......cops can still go fuck themselves. Not to worry though lantern53, I've never dealt with you in uniform, as far as I know. I bet you're the bee's knees. I can't judge you there. Maybe I'll even polish up your badge for ya one day. Press your uniform. Tune up the ol' squad car. I just hope someone makes a video of it, and it's posted here. So we can all hold hands and sing kumbaya, while the siftbot joyfully sheds a single unifying tear.

Judge backs charges against cops in Tamir Rice killing

GenjiKilpatrick says...

WTF is wrong with you, you crazy bastard?!

Stop defending murders just because they wear police uniforms!

That cop - who was already fired from another PD for incompetence - "had no other choice" but to murder a 12 year CHILD?!?

You're fucking crazy.

I really can only hope you experience some ridiculous shit like this one day.

Maybe then you'll realize how SHITTY OF A PERSON YOU ARE..

It seems to me that since the cops pulled up directly on the kid they had not choice except for self protection.

Texas cop busts a pool party picking on the black teens

dannym3141 jokingly says...

This is the most vague, passive aggressive shite that i've ever had the misfortune to read.

"Too many people" are now being "taught" to disobey cops. How many people is just the right amount of people to be taught to disobey cops? How the hell is someone "taught" to disobey cops? Are there schools opening? Can you specify anything, or shall we just wave our hands and say "well if people are getting killed by cops, obviously people are educated in how to disobey a cop and therefore deserves to die"? Shall we do the hand waving? Yeah? Yeah, it's much easier to vaguely insinuate around something without having to pin yourself down to anything in particular - cos something specific could be disputed.

But golly gee willickers criminy sir, i sure don't mean to paint you as an excuse maker for the murderous uniformed psychopaths just because you make excuses on just about every single sift about it. Unlike you guys who like to paint us as cop-haters just because SOME of our posts on SOME sifts are disparaging towards the police.

And @bobknight33 - are you serious bro? Do you work for the police PR department or something? You should! Do what i say or keep getting slammed to the ground. You can rely on that tactic to create a functioning and safe society... right after the mass uprising and civil war ends. It scares me that people exist in this world who are so short sighted and arrogant..... and callous.. all at the same time.. I feel like you really do believe that "forever slamming into the ground" the dissenters, the people whose crime is DISAGREEING with your law, is an ingenious plan. Surely you can't think that, and you must be trolling at least a little. People might have gone soft these days, but if you make them scared for their safety then they'll react like the wild animals we inherited our survival instincts from. That's just making yourself the enemy of a much, much larger group of people - the people you're meant to be keeping safe from harm. You can't think this.. unless you actually want a fascist occupying force controlling people.

police detaining a person for no reason

Asmo says...

You can't understand why he feels that way?

You take umbrage to peoples perception of police officers, yes? You think it's grossly unfair that people classify all of you by the actions of the notable few?

Well here's a little news flash. You get to take off your uniform at the end of the shift. You can go to a restaurant or a shopping center and be perfectly fine with no one sitting around thinking you're a fascist police state tool because of what you wear rather than who you are.

The guy in the video? He doesn't get to take off his skin. He doesn't get to stop being viewed with suspicion, doesn't stop getting harassed by idiots who don't care for the truth and are purely in it to pick on people and raise revenue. He lives with people making assumptions about him 24/7 because of who he is, not because of what he does.

Dig deep down and find that empathy that seems to be lurking in there somewhere. Assuming your one of the good guys (and apologies but your posting history doesn't really support that), don't you feel a deep abiding embarrassment when you see these yahoos make every cop look worse because of their actions?

Yes, it's not fair that people will ascribe the actions of a few bad eggs to an entire population. Not fair for anyone that is victimised by it.

I don't understand why they trespassed this guy from UTA property however. I just don't see how that's legal.

The whole interaction is quite irritating because I have to agree with the hoodie guy, nothing makes sense.

Arrested for Drinking Arizona Iced Tea in parking lot

EMPIRE says...

huh... no!

That piece-of-shit of an excuse for a cop, approached him asking what he was drinking. He came up with the trespassing excuse after he realized he had no valid reason to bother the guy or arrest him.

edit: also, the piece of shit, wasn't in uniform and didn't properly identified himself. Fuck him!

lantern53 said:

He was arrested for trespass, because he didn't leave when he was told to leave.

A business has control over their property, which includes the parking lot.

As far as judges go, you can flip a coin, one day this, another day that.

Judge probably doesn't go down to the local quickie mart and see beer cans that people throw out, condoms, people complaining that someone is in the parking lot playing their stereo too loud, just hanging out etc.

We need separation of corporate and state asap. This is ludicrous.

"I'm a paying guest of this hotel"

"We'll take care of that" off duty cop that shouldn't even be allowed to wear the fucking uniform.

World's Dumbest Cop

Mordhaus says...

Here is the thing, and it's the reason why I have started to switch my opinion of our law enforcement. The number of stories and videos that show good cops has become dramatically outnumbered by the ones showing despicable human beings wearing a uniform.

Now what am I supposed to think as a rational person when I post a video showing a good cop, not wanting to shoot a murder suspect that might be armed, and immediately after that I get inundated with multiple videos showing officers literally murdering, beating, soliciting, and running over people?

It's equivalent to me coming to your house every day and beating the shit out of you for months, but one time I buy you an ice cream cone instead and tell you to have a great day. Now can you tell me that you are the type of person that is going to say, "Wow, he got me an ice cream and didn't hurt me today!" or are you a thinking creature that is going to say, "Fuck you and your ice cream, you sociopath!"?

It's just not good enough anymore to be that one good cop or even multiple good cops unless you are willing to take a stand and out the bad ones to be criminals. The thin blue line can no longer be held if we are to gain a modicum of trust back towards our law enforcement. No more buddy system, you fuck up and you do time. Until then, I can't trust a cop anymore and I have actual family that does police work.
