The three girls and the cops controversy and this press conf

bcglorf says...

Here's possibly the clip being referenced, from the sheriffs office directly. Shows two officers, both stripped down from uniform, 1 looks like they are carrying back their vest suggesting it had been stripped off. I'm not sure how much more can realistically be expected. As the Sheriff said, have we really hit the point where unless we have a video of the deputies wading into the water it clearly didn't happen?

Safe and Sorry – Terrorism & Mass Surveillance

poolcleaner says...

Yeah, i dont trust a single fuck with a badge or a gun or both and a uniform. That wasnt always so. At one time i was a pretty lame introverted nerd with the world as my oyster. Listening to Rage Against the Machine made me concerned, because it was too extreme. And then the iron fist of law enforcement thought theyd fuck with me and make me suffer for what was not my burden. And then it just gets worse and worse, a downward spiral of constant legal battles, jail time, mental illness, etc. etc. etc. Its all the same to me, govt, law enforcement, human resource representatives, executives, redcoats. Oppression creates terrorism. Always.

During the Philippine-American war, the events which lead up to our own soldiers commiting acts of genocide started with our disregard of the indigenous people, oppression, and penchant for disrespecting local men and harassing their women; as well, our ignorant and well documented philosophies of Anglo-Saxon exceptionalism. The family of the abused rise up and attack their oppressors. Terrorism will always be so as long as the mighty refuse to respect all ways of life and seek instead to instill their systems of government and create puppet governments whoch fail, destablizing entire regions.

Because now the game is bigger. You dont simply destablize a region: when you oppress people, you destabilize an entire zeitgeist, affecting far more people than ever before. People in America rise up to join forces that provide promises of liberty that America no longer offers. Even if those terror groups themselves lie, the broken people see it as a hope. The oppressed will crawl out of the woodwork and kill. There is no precise pattern when frank castles of the world do their deeds. Its just like the 4000 deaths per year from semitrucks, the trucking industry says 70% (debatable, likely a lower number) of accidents are caused by noncommercial vehicles. Impatient people weaving in and out of traffic and cutting off truck drivers oppresses them and sometimes even they to rise up and do terror.

So simple answer: Love, peace, and good will are what the government should promote. Of course, that would simply open them to being taken advantage of... so, we are fucked, always and forever. But maybe even if we cant promote true peace, perhaps we can at least avoid creating the terrorists we fear.

San Antonio ISD Officer Bodyslams 12 Year Old Girl

newtboy says...

Brutal child abuse.
I've gotten to the point where, when I see a trained adult officer use their full strength against a child, I want to see the crowd that surrounds him knock him the fuck out then place them in their own handcuffs under citizens arrest.
If any other adult did this to a child, that would certainly be the proper response.
A blue uniform changes nothing except to make the officer MORE culpable for their actions, not less, since they are trained on how to handle this situation without injuring a child.
That girl is never going to have to work. Smashing her skull is probably going to be quite costly for the taxpayers in San Antonio. It SHOULD be quite costly for the officer, but they're usually protected by law from civil suits.
BTW, @Mordhaus , this isn't really 'kids'....those are supposed to be videos acceptable FOR kids, not videos OF kids.

Cop Harassing The Wrong BMX Bikers Gets Shut Down

robbersdog49 says...

When they're exposed to the median risk of workers in America then I'll agree with this.

But they aren't. It's their job to deal with the most dangerous people, the most dangerous situations. This cop in the video is a bit of a dick to these kids but maybe he's been watching them get in the way of other people and make a nuisance of themselves, who knows? Maybe he goes about talking to them a bit wrong, but to be fair I don't see an awful lot wrong here.

But if a fight breaks out nearby and someone pulls a gun everyone else there gets to run away. But that guy in the blue uniform is expected to get involved and sort it all out. That's not a median wage task.

mtadd said:

Why the hell is a cop getting paid $200k a year? At best, they should be paid US median salary which is a small fraction of that.

Colorado Traffic Stop Turns Ugly

MilkmanDan says...

I completely agree that it *looks* like very bad form by the police, and also that race seems like a very clear factor in the escalation.

However, the phone video doesn't tell the whole story. While I tend to believe the passenger when he says that they were NOT told why they were being pulled over, the officers did NOT give their names, etc., the phone video doesn't preclude the possibility that they were given that information before the video started.

I think @bobknight33 is right to say that seeing a dash cam recording from the police car would definitely help clear things up, especially if I was in a situation where my opinion mattered (say, if I was on a jury in a case against the officers).

This is exactly the sort of situation where a good cop would be very happy to have dash cam or uniform cam evidence to show that their actions were justified, if indeed they were. That seems unlikely (but not completely impossible) here, though.

Police Murder Sleeping Couple On A Date

poolcleaner says...

NWA "Fuck Tha Police":

Right about now, N.W.A. court is in full effect
Judge Dre presiding
In the case of N.W.A. vs. the Police Department;
prosecuting attorney's are: MC Ren, Ice Cube,
and Eazy-motherfucking-E

Order, order, order
Ice Cube, take the motherfucking stand
Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth
and nothing but the truth so help your black ass?

You god damn right!

Well won't you tell everybody what the fuck you gotta say?

Fuck the police coming straight from the underground
A young nigga got it bad cause I'm brown
And not the other color so police think
they have the authority to kill a minority
Fuck that shit, cause I ain't the one
for a punk motherfucker with a badge and a gun
to be beating on, and thrown in jail
We can go toe to toe in the middle of a cell
Fucking with me cause I'm a teenager
with a little bit of gold and a pager
Searching my car, looking for the product
Thinking every nigga is selling narcotics
You'd rather see, me in the pen
than me and Lorenzo rolling in a Benz-o
Beat a police out of shape
and when I'm finished, bring the yellow tape
To tape off the scene of the slaughter
Still getting swoll off bread and water
I don't know if they fags or what
Search a nigga down, and grabbing his nuts
And on the other hand, without a gun they can't get none
But don't let it be a black and a white one
Cause they'll slam ya down to the street top
Black police showing out for the white cop
Ice Cube will swarm
on ANY motherfucker in a blue uniform
Just cause I'm from, the CPT
Punk police are afraid of me!
HUH, a young nigga on the warpath
And when I'm finished, it's gonna be a bloodbath
of cops, dying in L.A.
Yo Dre, I got something to say

Fuck the police
Fuck the police
Fuck the police
Fuck the police

Example of scene one

Pull your god damn ass over right now
Aww shit, now what the fuck you pulling me over for?
Cause I feel like it!
Just sit your ass on the curb and shut the fuck up
Man, fuck this shit
Aight smartass, I'm taking your black ass to jail!

MC Ren, will you please give your testimony
to the jury about this fucked up incident?

Fuck the police and Ren said it with authority
because the niggas on the street is a majority
A gang, is with whoever I'm stepping
and the motherfucking weapon is kept in
a stash box, for the so-called law
Wishing Ren was a nigga that they never saw
Lights start flashing behind me
But they're scared of a nigga so they mace me to blind me
But that shit don't work, I just laugh
because it gives em a hint, not to step in my path
For police, I'm saying, "Fuck you punk!"
Reading my rights and shit, it's all junk
Pulling out a silly club, so you stand
with a fake-assed badge and a gun in your hand
But take off the gun so you can see what's up
And we'll go at it punk, and I'ma fuck you up!
Make you think I'ma kick your ass
but drop your gat, and Ren's gonna blast
I'm sneaky as fuck when it comes to crime
But I'ma smoke 'em now and not next time
Smoke any motherfucker that sweats me
or any asshole, that threatens me
I'm a sniper with a hell of a scope
Taking out a cop or two, they can't cope with me
The motherfucking villain that's mad
With potential, to get bad as fuck
So I'ma turn it around
Put in my clip, yo, and this is the sound
[BOOM, BOOM] Yeah, something like that
but it all depends on the size of the gat
Taking out a police, would make my day
But a nigga like Ren don't give a fuck to say

Fuck the police
Fuck the police
Fuck the police
Fuck the police

Yeah man, what you need?
Police, open now
Aww shit
We have a warrant for Eazy-E's arrest
Get down and put your hands up where I can see 'em
(Move motherfucker, move now!)
What the fuck did I do, man what did I do?
Just shut the fuck up
and get your motherfucking ass on the floor
(You heard the man, shut the fuck up!)
But I didn't do shit
Man just shut the fuck up!

Eazy-E, won't you step up to the stand
and tell the jury how you feel about this bullshit?

I'm tired of the motherfucking jacking
Sweating my gang, while I'm chilling in the shack, and
shining the light in my face, and for what?
Maybe it's because I kick so much butt
I kick ass - or maybe cause I blast
on a stupid-assed nigga when I'm playing with the trigger
of any Uzi or an AK
Cause the police always got something stupid to say
They put out my picture with silence
Cause my identity by itself causes violence
The E with the criminal behavior
Yeah, I'm a gangsta, but still I got flavor
Without a gun and a badge, what do ya got?
A sucker in a uniform waiting to get shot
by me, or another nigga
And with a gat it don't matter if he's smaller or bigger

Size ain't shit, he's from the old school fool)
And as you all know, E's here to rule
Whenever I'm rolling, keep looking in the mirror
And ears on cue, yo, so I can hear a
dumb motherfucker with a gun
And if I'm rolling off the 8, he'll be the one
that I take out, and then get away
While I'm driving off laughing this is what I'll say

Fuck the police
Fuck the police
Fuck the police
Fuck the police

The verdict

The jury has found you guilty of being a redneck,
white bread, chickenshit motherfucker
But wait, that's a lie! That's a god damn lie!
Get him out of here!
I want justice!
Get him the fuck out my face!
I want justice!
Out, RIGHT NOW!
FUCK YOU, YOU BLACK MOTHER-FUCKERS!

Fuck the police!
Fuck the police!
Fuck the police!

trump supporters get violent with silent protesters

bremnet says...

I don't get the rent-a-cop thing... in other similar videos where one or more folks are protesting silently or sitting in the audience with signs (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s2dm2AuUr0) uniformed police are asked by Trump to remove the trouble makers, or the disturbance is large enough that the police intervene and again, remove the troublemakers. Are these guys on the clock or are they off duty paid goons? The fat boy in the cowboy hat should have been arrested for his actions, no?

The brown shirt reference is well chosen. Don't know about others, but this is some scary shit, and the asshats that are following Chump have zero appreciation for both the freedom to vote and the responsibility to the country in doing so.

Officer involved shooting 12/06/15

eric3579 says...

Seems to me there are good reasons the Seattle police dept has been putting out these videos the last couple years. I assume it's A PR thing in their attempt to combat the reality that their dept is one of the worst in the country when it comes to police brutality (based on the need for the feds to investigate the dept due to abuse) and how the internal overwatch won't punish bad cops in Seattle.

A more realistic picture of the Seattle Police Dept.
http://truthvoice.com/2015/05/what-two-programmers-have-revealed-so-far-about-seattle-police-officers-who-are-still-in-uniform/

one of the many faces of racism in america

enoch says...

no mistaken assumption my friend.
just looking at the bigger picture is all.

was the "company" really disgusted by this mans behavior?
or were they performing damage control?
i suspect the latter.

which is why i brought up the PC police and the inherent dangers within.i even referenced a case in canada which had gone too far.(in my opinion).

does the company have a right to fire him? short answer? yes.
but nobody is asking about this mans rights, and if they are honest with themselves it is because he is a grotesque example of a human being.

so you try to further your point by doing a thought experiment, and i hate thought experiments, but ok..lets play:
what if he was advocating the legalization of sex with prepubescent children?

ah my friend.
this is easy.
the answer is arrest and convict.
but why you may ask?

here is where i think you may be misunderstanding my argument and your thought experiment reveals this quite plainly.

to YOU.this example of child sex and our racist turdnugget here are the same.

they are not.

because advocating to legalize child sex is an "intent to harm".the adovcating will result in actual harm of actual children.see:child pornography.

while turdnugget here has actually harmed no one.
nobody was actually harmed.
maybe disgusted.
maybe a feeling or two.

lets try another thought experiment.
what if this man was filmed not being an ugly racist but rather smoking weed with some buddies.

should he be fired?

another one:what if he is filmed at a sanders rally (unlikely) and the president of the company is a die-hard trump supporter?

should he be fired?

look,it is easy to view this man losing his job as some kind of justice, but we need to be honest why we are ok with THIS man getting fired and that reason is simply that he is grotesque and offensive.

but he did not actually HARM anyone.he was just offensive and IS offensive to our sensibilities.

i agree that there is an irony in this situation.the man verbally attacks a perceived threat to his livelihood, and then loses that livelihood.

it may have a certain poetry to it,but is that justice?
no.

the larger argument is this:when is it considered normal or acceptable to hold people to a company standard when they are:
not working.
not in uniform.
not representing the company in ANY way.
are not getting paid for this off time.
are engaging in activities which are harming no one but may be viewed as contrary to company standards?

where is the line drawn?
and who draws that line?
who enforces it?

while the company has a right to fire you for any reason it wishes, does it have a right to impose behavior, activities, personal life choices when you are not on the clock?

with the PC police engaging in ever more draconian and bullying tactics to impose their own sense of morality upon others, based on what THEY feel is righteous and morally correct.i feel this will get out of hand very quickly, and the canadian example i used is only one of many.

here is one thing i do not understand.
how come when the religious right uses tactics very similar to this,we all stand up and shout "fuck you buddy",but when the PC police behave in an almost identical fashion....people applaud.

that is just NOT a morally consistent stance.
it is hypocritical.

so maybe in the short run we can view this ugly example of a human being and think to ourselves that some form of justice was served, but that is a lie.it may make us feel good and tickle our moral compass as somehow being a righteous outcome to a reprehensible piece of shit, but it is no way justice.

in the larger context and taken to its logical conclusion:this moral calculus could be a future metric to impose obedience and compliance from, not just turdnugget, but EVERYBODY...and that includes you.

and THAT is something that i find extremely disturbing.

the PC police are having a real impact, with real consequences and even though they may have the best of intentions, the real result is social control, obedience and compliance.

i would rather i keep my liberty and freedoms to do as i wish.the PC police can suck a bag of dicks.

newtboy said:

It seems you are under the mistaken assumption that they bowed to public pressure by PC warriors and fired him. Read the description, the company itself was disgusted, and has a policy of being intolerant of hate speech by their employees. Do you feel the company has no right to fire him for public statements and actions outside work that run 100% contrary to the company policy?
Where do you draw the line? What if he was advocating for the legalization of sex with prepubescent children? Should they still ignore it if he only does it outside work? If that line is up to the company to decide, what's the issue here?

one of the many faces of racism in america

VoodooV says...

Hey bob, you're on camera!!

The guy is an racist idiot, but I don't think anyone deserves to lose their job over something like this. He's a fucking grunt, he's not a public figure, he wasn't working and it wasn't like he wore his company's uniform or logo on him or anything and I don't think a company should punish someone for what they do after hours. He was definitely trolling for a fight, but there was no violence, just harsh words, racist or not.

...but it's a private company and racists aren't a protected class and they can fire who they want.

Spring Valley High "Cop" violently assaults black teen girl

bcglorf says...

I've gotta say I'm disappointed with the extremity of your response.

To actually quote you, this may have been "Attempted murder" of a "Child"?

From the video this looks like a HS room, and the student looks not much different in size from many adults., so the child part seems a bit much, no? From the video, it sure doesn't look fatal. Heck, a typical fail video has more severe injuries in it.

My entire post though was asking what do we expect as a better response as a society? Is it really a good function of our school system that a student that refuses to go to the principals office requires not one, but two uniformed police officers to handle the situation correctly? I personally believe we've failed as a society a few steps before this.

Is it really best that we mandate that all school staff are absolutely forbidden to come into physical contact with the students? No taking a kid by the ear, certainly, as that could hurt them. Not even grabbing by the arm and dragging them to the office? Are we really wanting the only acceptable use of any physical force to require a pair of police officers called in?

newtboy said:

Certainly you can see a difference between reasonable force needed to remove a person and what happened here.
Reasonable force does not injure the person it's applied against.
Reasonable force would mean calling in another officer and taking her out, not strangling her and throwing her across the room by the neck. That's not reasonable. That's assault and battery, and perhaps attempted murder. I'm 100% certain the child would face at LEAST those charges if positions were reversed.

By the way, a Tornado doesn't have the range to reach Russia, especially not with a B61-12 as payload. So it doesn't really come as a surprise that our Eastern European neighbours are not particularly pleased either, given how it would be either them or us who this shit would be dropped upon when zealots in uniforms get up on the wrong side of the bed.

Nuclear proliferation, the cornerstone of future Fallout LARPs.

radx said:

German media reports that the USAF's budget plan for Q3/15 includes funds for the integration of the B61-12 nuclear bomb into German Tornado fighter-bombers.

How Germany can lobby for an abolition of nuclear weapons while our government allows the US to modernise its nuclear arsenal on German soil is beyond me, to be quite honest. Especially since an overwhelming majority of our parliament voted in favour of a resolution to pressure the US to remove its nukes from Germany territory five years ago.

Young Man Trains Hard to Live His Dream in the Boxing Ring

VideoSift v6 (VS6) Beta Front Page (Sift Talk Post)

lucky760 says...

@notarobot: Valid point about the playlist link. I'm going to work on moving it on the single video page and also adding it to the front page.

Regarding short/long/nsfw, I just quickly threw that onto the front page today after someone ^up there pointed out they were missing. I first had it next to the "comments" link, but thought everyone would prefer them below the thumbnail because they are hard to spot in the other area and serve to clutter it up more.

To me the uniform space between thumbnails is a non-issue, and in fact something I still don't even recognize casually now that you've pointed it out.

What do the rest of you guys think? Does the placement of long/short/nsfw below the thumbnails on the front page bother you and prefer that they'd be right of the thumbnail next to the "comments" link? Or are you happy with it where it is?

The other reason I put it below the thumbnail is that when you expand the video you can see that info in the meta data column with the length, channels, and tags.

VideoSift v6 (VS6) Beta Front Page (Sift Talk Post)

notarobot says...

I disabled beta because I could not easily find a way to access the playlists menu, which I still use. I eventually found it hiding waaay up in the corner next to the tiny favourite <3, and the tiny video length time, and tiny view count.
I don't know why these elements are separate from other information like channels and tags. It makes no sense to me to separate them.

The top bar should be for things that are standard across the sift. Putting video specific information up there breaks the hierarchy.

On the front page each video does not have uniform space. If a video is Long, the tag is inserted there, creating more space between the Long video and the next when scrolling down. Short/Long/NSFW tags shouldn't mess with formatting like this.
