There was no gun. The man says “I’m recording” and the twice fired for cause officer just opens fire in a blind rage.
On the stand the cop admitted hiding his previous police jobs to hide that he had been forced out of both for misconduct including “ fanning his gun over an officer’s head and lying to his chief.”. Seems he learned nothing.

Police charged the victims with felony assault by panic attack, he was acquitted after spending 42 days in jail over a cop’s mistakes, she was convicted of misdemeanor attempted resisting. They were first held for weeks without even a preliminary hearing required within 10 days of arrest by law.

It turned out the cop had no reason at all to stop the woman either, none whatsoever, and no reason to stop her at gunpoint either. He claimed a general warrant alert for a “blond woman” had been issued (WHAT!?!) but produced no such alert in court.
Also his official report on this incident bore no resemblance to the recorded video at all, from the direction he faced to what he saw and heard, and absolutely no mention of his panic attack and hospitalization.
Turns out this trigger happy, lying, wife abusing, adulterous, false report filing, testifying, twice fired cop is a “preacher”. Why am I not surprised?

Also turns out his department did not investigate this shooting incident.

Ok @bobknight33….what did the guy 20+ yards away just recording do to warrant getting shot at 7 times, felony arrested (so beaten up) and put in jail for 42 days?
How was he not complying?
How was he “fucking around with cops” because he definitely got shot at, so did the woman and emt he very nearly shot, (that cop has absolutely no shot control at all, fired for poor gun safety before) the two were falsely charged with felony assault against a police officer (her too), a false charge that carries a 15 year sentence.

Seems cut and dry to me. He had every opportunity to escape calmly and unharmed without using deadly force, or even to use force but at least attempt to not kill. He chose instead to shoot the guy in the head at point blank range.


Then there’s the second and third killings. Certainly you can’t use self defense to excuse murdering citizens to effect an escape from a previous murder you just committed. Again, if so, it’s open season on people, even on cops. They’re all armed and trigger happy, and certain to use deadly force against force if given the chance. Not a precedent I think they want to set, but absolutely what their defense leads to.

IMO minor crime should be treated like baseball. You get 3 strikes and then you're out. If you're not stealing for food you're a selfish scumbag and society would be far better off without you.

It's worth mentioning this is likely scripted, and not real. A real defendant would be insane to volunteer that race was such a factor, or that he attacked a kid with a weapon from behind.
Googling their names, or neighborhood watch attack with shovel turns up nothing. Seems like this would have been big news if it happened.

Cops shouldn't be considered a threat because they have been appointed by the government to uphold the law. The success of that is definitely up for debate, but to suggest that citizens should be fighting cops is absurd. That will only lead to more deaths.
(The solution is for the system to weed out the bad cops, the incompetent ones, the corrupt ones, the power tripping, racist, trigger happy etc).

Most cops do the right thing, most of the time. The millions of police encounters each day where nothing has gone wrong don't make the news.

I think it's worth considering what the any country would be like without law enforcement. We know what it would be like - hurricane Katrina - complete chaos on the streets, far worse than these shootings. Assuming your goal is to have fewer people shot and murdered, then having a police force is the best way we know of. However for that to work we need a competent police force that is there to serve and protect.

There definitely needs to be a system were police are made accountable to make sure stuff like this video does happen, or even non-lethal situations where citizens are being harassed. There are number of ways to do this. But my suggestions is that if you want to argue with someone, don't do it while they're holding a gun at you. Wait until you get to the station and call your lawyer. It's not perfect, but at your chances of getting shot will drop dramatically.

i shall offer a historical perspective in the ways of the power dynamic.

while this is a power vs powerlessness dynamic dealing with agents of the state,it helps to understand just how we got to this point,and it is NOT the first time we have been here.

see:labor movement of the 30's and the labor strikes,and the response from not only the business community but our own government.

see: the civil rights movement and segregation,and how demagouges used political power to divide by way of racism,and then used police to intimidate,beat and imprison.

Oh calm down. I didn't say criminals don't deserve to be apprehended but police officers do need to maintain a certain level of professionalism. What if that officer had run over that *suspect* and killed him? Oops, no trial for him I guess? I'm certainly not suggesting that the guy fleeing from the cops in this video isn't a criminal but he isn't waving a gun around so ramming him with a car seems a bit heavy handed. The police in other countries can manage to apprehend suspects without going all Dukes of Hazard on them. That's all I'm getting at.

As to your other point, complying with overzealous, trigger-happy police officers doesn't guarantee that you aren't still going to end up with a boot in your face or a bullet in you. There have been enough incidents in the news that support that view. Here is one example.

Anyhow I think the officer unintentionally slid his car into the suspect; he probably only meant to cut him off and didn't anticipate the lack of traction lost on the grass.

I agree with lucky760 here. This guy was not a compliant person shot for no reason.

I'm someone who thinks cops should be held to extremely high standards and I've commented such on other cop videos on videosift. But in this case I'm not really sure what else the cop could have done. He needed to engage the guy physically. He was walking toward him. That might sound innocent enough but the closer he got to the cop the more dangerous he became.

Even if there was a real language barrier and the guy didn't understand what he was being told this is just obviously not OK. He wasn't behaving right, maybe he was high or whatever but he was a physical threat to the officer.

Portraying him as just a person shuffling around being shot for no reason ignores the fact that he was shuffling right up to an officer who had his weapon drawn. If the officer allowed him to get too close he could have attacked the officer. Even if the officer got a clean shot adrenaline could have driven the guy on a step or two and he could have stabbed or shot the officer. That distance separating them is important. Moving toward the officer in this situation is a threatening act, regardless of where your hands are.

The officer did not shoot on numerous occasions when the guy put his hands down, an act which under the circumstances could legitimately be seen as a threat to his safety. He waited until the guy had gone way too far and got way too close. This wasn't a trigger happy cop out to back a Mexican, it was an unlucky cop in the wrong place.

Shoot first ask questions later I guess. Trigger happy dipshit.
