Graphene Batteries Hit the Market

Spacedog79 says...

Hold on a minute, if graphene is 100 times stronger than steel and 2 atomic layers can be "bulletproof" then that would mean a sheet of steel 200 atoms thick would be equally bulletproof? That would be 1000 times thinner than aluminium foil, what sort of weedy bullets are they using?

Which is The Most Dangerous Car? Problems with NHTSA ratings

newtboy says...

Maybe for average cars, but that's not true when it comes to old Broncos or Jeeps. In the early 70's, they built them like tanks (heavy and slow), especially with the roll bar option properly installed, Broncos even had a thick full tube frame, not just a C channel, not unibody, and definitely no plastic.

Granted, the safety systems were lap belts and nothing more and the steering column would spear through your chest in a head on crash while the bare metal dash cracks your passenger's head, even stock they tend to roll, the fuel economy is non existent, and top speed is well under 2/3 what modern cars can produce (good thing since the brakes are sub par), but the cars themselves are nearly indestructible (I have one of each). I've dropped my jeep frame 3+ ft onto solid rock, it chipped the rock (and maybe my spine). ;-)
Late 70's early 80's that all changed, mostly for the worst.

A good way to get a feel for the difference between modern and older cars is to play BeamNG. Crash an old car at speed in that and it will get destroyed while a modern car will hold together.

PAPADOPOLOUS CONTINUES CONVERSATIONS OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL WEEKS AND MAKES TRIPS TO RUSSIA WHICH BEGINS TO RAISE FLAGS WITHIN THE CAMPAIGN

Manafort forwarded the message to another Campaign official, without including Papadopoulos, and stated: “Let[’]s discuss. We need someone to communicate that [Trump] is not doing these trips. It should be someone low level in the Campaign so as not to send any signal.”

APRIL 2016
+++++++++++++
Papadopoulos admitted telling at least one individual outside of the Campaign—specifically, the then-Greek foreign minister—about Russia’s obtaining Clinton-related emails.

Trump Campaign had received indications from the Russian government that it could assist the Campaign through the anonymous release of information that would be damaging to Hillary Clinton.

It only took 3 years for Dems to find a reason for impeachment articles . The thinnest of reasons with no proof. Only a difference of ideology feeds their blood thrust to remove this man.

No running, no Putin link no nothing just a big waste of Americans time.

I, personally love it. Trump has won the battle. Democrats across the land are fed up and will switch party or just sit out the 2020 election.

All for what? This now goes to the Senate. For what? Republican control and this will no pass/ convict. Just a wast of Americans time.

Multi-Agent Hide and Seek

bremnet says...

Another entrant in the incredibly long line of adaptation / adaptive learning / intelligent systems / artificial intelligence demonstrations that aren't. The agents act based on a set of rules / freedoms/constraints prescribed by a human. The agents "learn" based on the objective functions defined by the human. With enough iterations (how many times did the narrator say "millions" in the video) . Sure, it is a good demonstration of how adaptive learning works, but the hype-fog is getting a big thick and sickening folks. This is a very complex optimization problem being solved with impressive and current technologies, but it is certainly not behavioural intelligence.

White Lie: The Cruel Abuse of a Starving Polar Bear

newtboy says...

I have to agree, since they also claim NO other starving polar bears were seen in 2017, and that sea ice didn't break up early, but in fact it was measured at around 5000km3 in September 2017 and the mean volume since 1979 is around 12000km3 in September, and average ice thickness was the lowest ever recorded for most of the year in 2017....when these articles were published.

The truth is, that IS what climate change LOOKS like, very few articles actually attributed this particular bears condition to climate change. Only those wishing to intentionally misread in order to contradict their own intentional misunderstanding didn't understand that. Lies indeed.

It reminds me of my brother denouncing the numbers on mass school shootings because in some, only one person was killed (but multiple shot), claiming that "mass shooting" meant "mass murder" was his way of debunking the argument and then denying there is a problem.

Right wing debate strategy....Step one, misrepresent a claim. Step two, prove that misrepresentation wrong. Step three, claim that debunks the entire argument the claim was supporting.

*lies

Even if the plight of this individual bear was misrepresented, this still sounds like some climate change denialism.

Oh....I didn't say it worked! ;-)
His glasses were 3/4 inch thick afterwards. I went with him to get his new pair shortly after surgery, he drove, and the difference was startling. I realized he couldn't see a thing on the drive there. I thought he had been joking when he asked if the lane was clear when there was a bus beside us....I was wrong.

I guess in the end it did work, as well as expected in the 80's. He still could barely see with bulletproof thickness glasses, but he wasn't completely blind.

The Ice Strikes Back

BSR says...

If the ice is just thick enough it will keep the gravel in place. Looks like her foot slipped before she even had her full weight on it. It also looked like driver slipped a bit too.

Opener: Someone could do that easily depending on the circumstances. Just make up a logical scenario on your own. (i'm not going to do the work for you.)

Some people have a sense of humor. Maybe they just shared it with someone and they shared it with someone and so on.

Good question about the ADT logo. Wouldn't doubt they (ADT) picked up the video and added it themselves. Doesn't affect me one way or the other.

It can be as suspicious as you can make it. But why?

If it's everything you say, so what?

newtboy said:

How do you slip on loose gravel like it was smooth ice without moving a single rock? (that I can see at least)
I'm suspicious this is a fake.
The story, they took the garage door opener out of the car and left it in the garage, also makes no sense. Why would someone ever do that?
Then, why would they publicly share the video of themselves falling? And why is there an ADT logo on the video?
Highly suspicious.

BACON CAUSES CANCER!!!! MCDONALDS IS GIVING FREE CANCER!

newtboy says...

Lol.
18% increase per 50grams of bacon (and/or other processed meats) would mean I already have between a 40-80000% increased chance or better, might as well enjoy more bacon. I must have increased it >40% tonight alone with 3 thick pieces that were about .1lb (45g)each. Too late now by far.....and I don't enjoy bacon, I'm orgasmic about bacon.

And here I thought you quit me.

transmorpher said:

Also your stats are way off it's not 1% it's 18% for every 50g according to the WHO after reviewing 800 studies.

... are you going to tell me you don't enjoy bacon?
