I agree with you that Morrowind was better then Oblivion.. but I think Skyrim trumps them all.

All three keep the same "Theme" (the notes played for the rising crescendo) but differently.
Morrowind has it peacefully played by flutes as it climbs, Oblivion has it played with a quicker tempo and by trumpets, and skyrim put lyrics to it, and gave it a more grand feel.)

clicky

That video is a really good way of hearing how the theme evolved throughout the three games.

Steve Reich's Clapping Music

Fusionaut says...

Steve Reich uses a lot of 'phase shifting' in his music. This is when a rhythmic pattern is played by two performers where one of the the performers keeps the pattern at a constant tempo while the other performer plays at a slightly faster tempo. The effect of this would be similar to two signal lights on cars coming into sync with each other and then going out of sync. This piece, however, simply takes a musical phrase clapped by two performers but the second performer shifts the rhythm by an eighth-note over and over again until they line up. That's why it's more danceable. >> ^oohlalasassoon:

That was awesome... and nearly danceable which is saying a lot for a Steve Reich tune.

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit (Reggae Version)

geo321 says...

Yeah it was manipulated. Apparently the guy with the youtube account where this vid came from specializes in that. I think he plays all the instruments individually in his studio then syncs then with a video. >> ^MilkmanDan:

I liked it. But wasn't the vocal track sampled straight off of the album version and then digitally time compressed to match the altered tempo? It had that slightly shrill sound that comes from time compression plus digital compensation for pitch.
So I guess I'm curious about how it was created.

NordlichReiter says...

The key of E it is a two step waltz, but in most cases timing is not followed exactly, because of the fills. Acoustic solo is excellent place for expression and improv. But with a group it is a bit difficult unless the band knows how you improvise and can play along.

I'm pretty sure this is in 4/4 timing. It's tempo is pretty normal maybe Andante.
The chord progression is, E, A, E on the first bar, and then E, B7 on the next bar.
Like so:
E                          A

   E
I've got a good woman at home who thinks I do no wrong
E
;
;               B7
But sometimes lord, she just ain't always around
