When the bass is too funky for the audience

Khufu says...

amazing! and I while basslines CAN get too funky... this wasn't, but it was too damn fast for the audience. You could feel the relief when it dropped back to a reasonable tempo:)

Supermarket Opera Flash Mob

SFOGuy says...

For those curious: it's from an opera by Giuseppi Verdi

La Traviata

It's in Act 1: 'Libiamo ne' lieti calici' (Alfredo, Violetta, Chorus) (Libiamo ne' lieti calici)

The song is a brindisi, a lively song that encourages the drinking of wine or other alcoholic beverages. The duet is performed in the first act of the opera, during a late-night party at Violetta Valéry's house. It is sung by Violetta and Alfredo Germont, a young man who is in love with her. Alfredo is convinced by his friend Gastone and by Violetta to show off his voice. He begins this drinking song, later joined by Violetta and the rest of the company.
The piece is written in B-flat major, its time signature is 3/8, and the tempo is marked Allegretto, dotted quarter note.

The 3/8 time signature is why you hear (or see in your mind's eye?) a waltz going on.

Oh, and on looking up: Drakes Supermarket is in Australia !

Mad World-Pentatonix

Khufu says...

What? the original 'gave it a sad tone', it's a ridiculously sad song in a minor key, there's now way around that:)
The Gary Jules version just slowed the tempo a bit, which this version copied.

8th Grade Sax Speedrun of Flight Of The Bumblebee

2 black dudes-1 iconic metal song

ChaosEngine says...

I don't think you can copyright the title of a work, just the work itself.

It's funny to see what these guys think is difficult. Tempo and time signature changes are really common in metal (especially thrash) and almost any metal player has to get used to them right from the start. The rhythm playing for this song would be about intermediate difficulty, but the solos are ridiculous because, well... Marty Friedman.

I often wondered if these guys (Fearless Iranians From Hell) had a copyright claim to "holy war" as a song name.....theirs was first.

Super Mario Bros. on Marimba with 4 Mallets by Aaron DeWayne

lucky760 says...

Wonderful.

My oldest boy is learning the song on piano for his holiday concert in December, so I have a special appreciation for the details of this performance.

You don't realize some of the intricacies of performing the song until you get in there and try it. Your hands really have to jump all over the place and at a tempo and cadence that's really hard to get right at some spots.

Microburst Event Causes Planes to Take Off

Babymech says...

From a reddit (fwtw) on the topic :

"I'm very curious as to how you got this video, i was under the impression it never left the airfield.
This happened in April 2014, this past year. The weather is absolute crap here, especially for soaring. Well... we get good weather sometimes. Anyway, it's not uncommon for those TG-16A's to go up with a 25 knot gust... But i digress.
The cadets were pushing in because winds were out of limits and the weather was getting worse... and BAM! Microburst.
This microburst hit right next to the airfield. The tower spotted it early, gave a verbal warning "look out..." and cadets are trained to do the following: grab a wing (glider) and turn broadside into the wind and put the spoilers out. The tows were not so easy... nor lucky. Their takeoff speed is about 50 knots, and none of them were powered up when they lifted off the ground, to give you an idea of how bad the wind was. Their only maneuver is to face into the wind and pray they dont actually take off. The tows that took off left for COS airport... it took another 30 minutes of holding gliders before the tower let the cadets start moving the gliders.
As for taking off... 55 kt gusts are the highest the Academy has had in a long time. Considering there were a half-dozen other aircraft within 100 ft of the tows, along with people (i.e. cadets around/in the gliders) if he was moving too far from his position in the queue, the safest action is to get some altitude and try and leave the microburst. Or at the very least put some altitude and distance in between himself and the cadets and aircraft. You saw how slow the tows in the air were moving relative to the ground... those were HARSH winds.
At about 0:20, you can see a cadet hanging onto the wing of a glider on the bottom of a screen. This wind was scary. I don't know if anyone was up at the time, but full tempo ops can be up to 5 tows and 8 gliders... on a standard afternoon training day 3 tows and 4 or 5 gliders is normal. It looks like they were already pushing the gliders to the hangar..."

So are there pilots in any of those tow planes?
(edit)
The little i could find seems to indicate the planes had pilots.

Producer: "Videogames are cool right now. Let's make a movie that's essentially Call of Duty!"

Yes-men: "Genius"

Internets: "OMG TAKE MY MONEY" *foamatmouth*

Me: "Whatever happened to cinema . . ."

(Apologies to those who are foaming at the mouth. I realize tastes differ, but apparently we seem to have forgotten that exciting action relies on a tempo, with crescendos complimenting quiet bits. Some of the best action movies consist of less than 20% of action, and yet somehow they manage to be amazing. Also, if I want to watch a videogame, I'll play it myself.)

White Rapper Overweight Rap Battle

newtboy says...

Wow.
Brutal, ballsy, berating of Biggie,
I wonder if mama was fat, would he be,
So quick to pick on another man's issues
Or would he feel badly, and hand him some tissues?
To dry up the tears that another made fall
by saying that he was too big to play ball,
or to feel, or be loved, or to be a real man,
or just sit in the heat without help from a fan.
His rhymes were OK, but the tempo was lacking
Like a long cooling drink, from a well they've been fracking.

Stay With Me - Vintage 1940s "Old Hollywood" Style Sam Smith

ChaosEngine says...

Wow, that is such bullshit.

Not a fan of Sam Smith, but there's no way Petty should get a songwriting credit for that.

The tempo and tone and key have completely changed.

Granted, the songs use a similar chord progression... but so what? There are only a limited number of chord progressions that sound musical, so of course you'll see repeats.

Yaybahar by Görkem Şen

moonsammy says...

I could see this being an excellent instrument for film scoring. Wouldn't work as well in an orchestral setting. The reverb appears to have a specific frequency which would severely limit the tempo of any collaborative effort - it would need to match or be a multiple of the yaybahar's inherent beat.

Everything Is AWESOME!!!

Skateboarding with dogs

poolcleaner says...

I do this with my dogs as well, but not this EPIC! As for the stop signs, when you skate for many, many years it's easy to stop, go, dodge, evade, etc. It's mostly cringe worthy for others who don't understand the tempo and law of the board.
