Yep, they're now saying he fled in the video to avoid being identified (ignoring that he gave his proper name and dob, and ignoring that he didn't leave) because he had a misdemeanor warrant, and followed up by breaking into his home, tasering him, and letting him be mauled horrifically by their dog (I've seen his arm, he was bitten so many times you can't count the deep punctures and tears), and their chief is standing behind them for all of it.
I hope his jury bankrupts that department with his award in court. He's going to win his lawsuit.

As for the macing, not using it would require physically man-handling an uncooperative person. I'm sure mace is unpleasant, but the chance of any injury coming from using it are far less than having to physically put hands on an uncooperative person. A taser would have been too much. After several warnings, and the video clearly showing the mace was used for compliance, not for punishment or out of anger, I agree with it. If it was me I would rather be maced than be "taken to the ground" by any cop, no matter how nice.

If she was trying to escape, she wasn't trying hard. She looked like she was slowly riding circles to me.
When, exactly, do you hear them tell her to stay? I don't here them say anything of the sort before she's handcuffed, not that I think she was trying to leave.

Being detained for cooperation of investigation? You do not have to submit to handcuffing and detention without a suspected crime, and "cooperation of investigation" is not a crime I've ever heard of. Detention is not arrest, so she wasn't resisting arrest.

Because I warn you I'm going to shoot you if you don't do something, that makes it OK if I do? Hmmmm. They can legally use spray and tasers in self defense, but should not be allowed to use them as a coercion technique. She posed no threat seated in the car handcuffed, so there was no legitimate use of force, and certainly no legitimate use of weaponry.

Again, this was only detention, not arrest. I've never heard of anyone charged with resisting detention.

They'll walk. I mean, remember the cop that shot Walter Scott in the back and then dropped his taser so he could claim that the victim tried to take it? Remember how it was all caught on camera?

Here is the thing, he could have taken another path in escalation. At the start of the video he already has his weapon drawn, not his taser, his 9mm handgun. He refused to do anything to de-escalate the situation, such as step back and call for backup and a watch commander. He instead escalated by placing hands on the driver and refused to call in a supervisor. When the driver moved, he escalated again with the weapon and after confirming the driver was no longer moving, continued to keep him in shooting position. After backup arrived with a taser drawn and ready, he still did not go to a guard position with his weapon. He became confrontational and even continued to draw down on the PI after there were multiple police on the scene.

In any case, watch the longer video @littledragon_79 posted. They go over the actual policy and training that the Deputy should have followed per the department's rules, which he did none of. This is either a case of a poorly trained Deputy or a hothead that shouldn't be a law enforcement officer.

I disagree. Police are not supposed to be our masters, we are not supposed to bow and scrape before them in the hopes we don't get sent to the stocks (or worse). Police are simply supposed to enforce the laws that we, as a society, have decided that we all should follow.

The problem is, we have allowed the police to become more than that through our own lack of care and mismanagement. A policeman should have to undergo more rigorous training and background checks, mental and physical, than any other service we provide to ourselves. Instead we pay them about the same as teachers and we let bullies into the system. We also allow people with significant evidence that they should never have positions of authority due to mental issues to become police. We do not rigorously punish the bad cops, nor prevent them from seeking work elsewhere, leading to the same type of thing that led to catholic molesters being shuffled about to molest again.

As far as police fearing others, can we finally say that the number of police fatalities are far less than the the ones inflicted by police? Yes, we have many guns in the USA, but the few times I recall of a police person being killed by one seem to revolve around them experiencing a retaliation style attack when you would least expect it (and not on a call), or when they are alone and on a remote call location. Yet most of these controversial police shootings of suspects seem to happen when they are in a group of officers with weapons drawn, which I would consider far less of a jumpy situation than being alone on a highway. If I am an officer, with multiple other officers nearby, I have weapons on the suspect (taser or otherwise), why am I more worried than if I am alone with a suspect? It simply doesn't make sense.

Finally, referring back to your resisting comment, have we not seen lately that you can still be shot while doing absolutely no resisting? One man was laying on the ground, hands in the air, while telling a mentally ill patient of his not to do anything that would get him shot, and the man on the ground got shot. Here in Austin we had a mentally ill man running naked in the street and he was shot and killed versus being tasered or taken down. The use of force, and the extremity of it, have not been shown to be merited. So if you can be shot and killed for not resisting, or simply not understanding the commands in the short time you are given to do so, what can we do? Should we carry a pair of handcuffs and a taser so we can pre-apply these items and give the cops less to fear?

From reports, they were responding to another call when they came upon the stalled car in the middle of the road.
Also from tv reports, they did use a taser at the same moment she shot him.

There must have been something that happened before this right? Why are 4+ cops with guns drawn and helicopter pointing on the guy?

It doesn't seem normal to have that kind of force for a stalled car.

Why they didn't taser him instead though, that is weird.
