Cars on ski slopes, 2 WD, 4 WD, and 4x4 snow tires rule

spawnflagger says...

slight nitpick about the video. the technology and the performance is different between All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) and 4-Wheel-Drive (4x4). These guys use the terms interchangeably, but that Ford is AWD, not 4x4.

It would also be a nice PSA if they did the same comparison on ice - where all of them would fail hard. This might teach dumb SUV owners that nothing works on ice and they should slow the fuck down when it's freezing rain followed by heavy snow.

Hottest Year Ever (Global Warming Hiatus) - SciShow

Trancecoach says...

@Taint, The skeptics don't "deny" that the climate changes. They are skeptical of the reasons why it changes, the claims of consistent warming, and the claims about the catastrophic effect of whatever is caused by human activity. Also, I don't think I need to go into the debunking of that 97% claim (science is not a function of votes or consensus, but of evidence). In any event, most of the "debate" about this topic is a waste of time considering the "believers" are mostly not climate scientists and that no one is actually doing very much about it in their own lives.

So, straw man opinions about so-called "deniers" is a pathetic attempt to substitute character "analysis" for actual scientific evidence of man-made global warming of catastrophic proportions. Evidence of which has yet to be provided.

So the real reason many people don't "believe" has to do with not being presented with actual evidence and instead being given false claims (97%) about "consensus" (which is irrelevant to science), and claims of "settled" science (also meaningless in real science), postulated mostly by writers, politicians, and activists with no scientific credentials.

No one really argues with the idea that the climate changes. But, rather, what caused the change, to what degree, and what the effects will be... Well, let's just say for now that all (not a few but all) climate models have been proven wrong.
So no, there are no climate change "deniers," but plenty of people, and many scientists, who don't believe certain claims about specific aspects, even when believers keep repeating the "consensus" canard.

I honestly don't think believers actually believe their own claims of impending greenhouse gas climate catastrophe. If they did, they would all drive hybrids and go vegetarian. Also, most "green" tech companies wouldn't fail (like most of them do). Why do the climate change believers drive their SUVs and fly to their holiday vacation without regard to the impending climate doom? They are polluting the air, are they not? By their own theories, they also warm up the climate.

Contrary to consensus claims, nearly every aspect of climate change is being debated by the scientific community. Can you name a specific aspect of it that is not under debate (without going into some general "climate change" "consensus" canard)? Such claims are too broad to mean anything of any relevance. What specific aspect? What about it?

MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — A Norton Shores man was arrested Sunday after leading police on a chase on his moped.

Norton Shores Police were dispatched to a home on Reneer Avenue west of Leon Street after Richard Shear, 28, allegedly threatened his mother and girlfriend with a sledgehammer and a knife and tried to set the house on fire.

Sources tell FOX 17 that the suspect’s mother called police after he threatened her with the weapons.

He`s accused of threatening his girlfriend too, but she told FOX 17 that never happened.

Sources also tell FOX 17 Shears attempted to light the house on fire by pouring gasoline on his landscaping then throwing a candle.

They say he also slashed an SUV’s tire before hopping on the moped and fleeing.

As FOX 17 took a closer look at the incident, we learned Shear has a history of drunk driving arrests, but we’re told he is also seeking help for mental health issues.

We’re told Shear, just like many other servicemen and women, suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a result of his time spent serving overseas in Iraq during his eight years in the Marines.

Those close to him tell us he has been struggling with PTSD, abusing alcohol to prevent dealing with the deep seeded issues and hitting rock bottom on Sunday.

Police say the chase ended back at Shear’s home when he tried running back inside but was arrested by police.

His bond has been set at $100,000.

I happen to have a time share camp in the deep deep Canadian woods. When I look at an accusation of being a pussy against the reality of my post-fishing-season SUV repair bills, I'd clearly and kindly take the former with a big fat economical smile.

Driver Tailgating a Cyclist Gets Instant Justice

jmd says...

Uhhmm... am I the only one who noticed the tailgater was in the left lane, and since the black suv in front of him was loosing speed and the bike rider looked to be passing him the grey SUV actually turned into the right lane just as they passed the cop? while he was at an unsafe distance when he switched lanes (probably expecting the suv to stop and make a left hand turn), he certainly wasn't tail gating. He hadn't been in the lane more then a second.

Januari says...

Well the camera isn't attached to his head so it's entirely possible he was looking at something else, that also might explain his startled reaction.

In his defense i'm sure he wasn't expecting an SUV to be moving so quickly along that path.

John Oliver Leaves GM Dismembered in Satans Molten Rectum

Sagemind says...

Actually, this is true, but it's also only one of the recall items that GM has issued Recalls for this year.

"GM says it has informed regulators about two more recalls imminent but not yet announced. The latest batch includes safety belt, air bag, transmission and electrical issues in a range of midsize sedans, full-size crossovers and SUVs, and pickups."
