Puppy Loves New Water Slide

Kayaking Down the Worlds Largest Natural Water Slide

newtboy says...

I have a hard time imagining people successfully sliding down that on their butts. I think they're being a bit lose with the term "waterslide".
Still, awesome run and a *quality skip at the bottom.

How This Two-Wheeled Car Uses A Disk To Balance

Stormsinger says...

There's an interesting bit of history that was -never- going to be a decent design for a car. Single-person, low speed, and a high-speed heavy-weight gyro just waiting for a collision to turn it into shrapnel. I'm still trying to figure out how anyone could claim that it wouldn't slide...with only two wheels, it's going to get -far- less traction than a four wheeled vehicle.

LA bikers scatter to avoid out of control rider

BSR says...

That false sense of security rears its ugly head again.

I removed a guy that T-boned an SUV with his motorcycle, on the driver side sliding door. He went in through the window and all the way to the back compartment. All his limbs and his neck were broken.

Luckily he still had his helmet on. The family may still be able to have viewing for the funeral.

The driver of the car was airlifted to the trauma center. There were no passengers in the back seats.

Heat Shrink Self-Solder Butt Splice Connectors

ForgedReality says...

So, once you've finished, slide some opaque heat shrink over it. No biggie.

Awesome, but transparent tubing? I'd be scared of touching it, 'cause what if the tubing has chafed off and the bare wire is exposed? You wouldn't know.

Crazy Firefighter Footage

I thought it was a basement window. My old house in NJ had these. There used to be a coal burning furnace in the cellar. The coal delivery truck would extend a chute to the window and the coal would noisily slide down the chute into bin.

that was weird.. why does the house have a window to the outside on the floor?

Soccer Drifting

lucky760 says...

I'm proving it right now.

I'm sitting down and not sliding all over the place. In order to move, I have to propel myself by some mechanism, such as appendage movement (i.e., contraction and extension of muscle fibers that terminate at more rigid structures, e.g., bones).

Yeah, I'm not seeing how I'd be able to move otherwise, except perhaps by some kind of motion device external to my person.

I don't like to speak in absolutes, though, so I'll still just say I *think* there might be something a little fishy about this video. Maybe.

Mic'd up ump dealing with a pissed off manager

eric3579 says...

It was thrown at him or behind him in retaliation. I'm sure it was no surprise to anyone involved this might be coming.

"The background for the explosive moment was an incident in the 2015 playoffs, when the Dodgers’ Chase Utley broke the leg of the Mets’ Ruben Tejada on a slide into second base that many observers, and not just in the New York dugout, thought was dirty. Utley was initially suspended two games, but he appealed and was able to stay active for the rest of the series, won in five games by a Mets team that chose to save retribution for a less meaningful time." -Washington Post

In context, makes more sense how pissed off the manager was and how understanding the umpire was to what the manager was saying and angry about.

Here is the Utley slide.

As a side note due to this play MLB changed the rules of what is an acceptable slide.

Okay, so many questions as I don't do baseball much.

First, why would he throw the ball so far behind the batter? Just to walk him? Whenever I've seen them walk a batter, the catcher just stands and they just throw high and over to the side. Why would he be ejected for walking a batter? Batters are walked all the time. What is the situation where you can't walk a batter? Is it the way he's walking the batter being far off normal?

Top 7 Most Bizarre Musical Instruments of the World

MilkmanDan says...

I knew them all minus the Otamatone (?) thing that didn't work.

My anti-theremin bias remains. The slide whistle could at least produce consistent near pitch-perfect notes if you practiced with it to get used to the slide locations. Theremin seems consistently inconsistent even if you've got masterful steady hands and loads of practice. The voodoo or homeopathy of instruments.

Squirrel vs Bird Feeder - Wrecking Ball Edition

00Scud00 says...

My parents used to have one of these, but then they got one that works without power. Anything as heavy as a squirrel latches on, the outer cage slides down and blocks access to the bird seed, less entertaining but pretty slick really.

Container Transport in Vietnam

C-note says...

There is a video out there on the internet that shows some unfortunate fella walking under one of these containers when one end tips then slides back a little. That clean up will require paint scrappers and brillo pads.

The type of thing that may work once, maybe twice, but if this is regular practice, I can guarantee a fail is eminent.
