This is your answer to 50 listed (and 1000 to come) pedophilic Republicans is a single unquoted tweet by a Republican operative best known for spreading false propaganda that you know no one will read because you are known to link to fake sites? ROTFLMFAHS!!! 😂 😂
Let me help you with that…don’t ignore #61

Introducing the Omega 1 - A Revolutionary Engine

TheFreak says...

No.

What kind of tolerances do you need to seal the chambers created by those rotors and then what happens to those tolerances from thermal expansion when the engine heats up?

Now ask yourself how you lubricate all of that and then notice the oil literally pouring out of the front seals of that engine.

All of those numbers are made up. Maybe someone did some creative theoretical napkin calculations but those numbers aren't based on anything that engine is doing.

Increased lubrication and stability.

SFOGuy said:

Hmmm. So, not an actual engineer--why would a seal that's in the wall and has the rotor spinning past it do so much better than a seal which is in the rotor and spinning and spinning past the wall?

StukaFox says...

This response seems to have a few gaps in it, but here's what a company rep said:

"And then there's our apex seals, they're like our piston rings," he continues. "In the Wankel engine, they're inside the rotor, again. They move at a high speed, and bounce around, they're very hard to lubricate. In our case, they're stationary, they don't bounce around, and you can lubricate them directly from the housing.

"So we basically solved the key challenges the old rotaries had with combustion and with oiling. Those oiling challenges caused both durability issues and emissions problems. By making those components stationary, we solve the challenges of the old rotary. And we also upgraded its cycle to give it much higher efficiency."

Someone tell me why the seals won't fail in the same way that Wankel rotors in the RX-7 do--but it will be a lot of fun until they do!

Purple Mattress Sues Over These 4 Safety Questions

bamdrew says...

The little microbeads effectively prevent large surface areas of their purple material from fully flattening and sticking to adjacent purple material surfaces. So its a lubricant to keep their bed from sticking to itself. That's my assumption at least.

Probably safe enough unless someone was purposefully sleeping on the disassembled mattress and inhaling a lot of the plastic, in which case they could have some lung irritation.

Their R&D and Marketing teams should be working late nights putting together demos of exactly how much of this plastic micro-bead powder makes it up through their covering. I'm thinking demos of people in pristine black clothes jumping on the bed then laying on it, then getting up to demonstrate no dust on them through the mattress pad. They also should be looking at comping people better mattress pads if they still have concerns. Just my read of the situation.

Looked into ordering some to do the droplets thing myself, and you can get 16oz on Amazon for about $24. According to some comments, it's good for lubricating treadmills. And silencers.

Welding in Space

oritteropo says...

Since I quite enjoyed the talk I'm willing to overlook that fact He did also have some good examples of actual cold welding.

NASA has an interesting lessons learned article about the Galileo high gain antenna failure, which also seems to be more nuanced than "it was cold welding" - http://llis.nasa.gov/lesson/492

p.s. I got curious about the reference to Gemini, and I'm not 100% sure but I think it might come from a 1991 paper "On-Orbit Coldwelding Fact or Friction?" by Dursch, H. & Spear, S. (Bibliographic Code: 1991NASCP3134.1565D) or else it's from the paper it references as ref 5 (I. Stambler "Surface Effects in Space", Space/Aeronautics, Vol 45 No. 2, 1966 pp. 63-67).

That paper gives the opposite impression to the start of Derek's talk, rather than cold welding being discovered around the time of Gemini, it was often thought to be a problem around that time but as he says later was subsequently found to be quite rare (Dursch and Spear found no actual cases of cold welding causing spacecraft issues, they were usually friction issues due to fretting or galling caused by loss of lubricants, but still recommended taking precautions to avoid coldwelding).

Wait...

Uses an example of cold-welding to set the premise for the talk.
Psych! - Example was not actually cold-welding.

His second example, the Galileo Jupiter mission, didn't explain why we *thought* cold-welding was a result of a malfunction, and I've no idea how that information would come about because the craft never returned to earth.

wtf? Are these shows really getting so bad? I had more respect for this guy.

Removing rusted nuts using a candle and a lighter

Mekanikal says...

Wax is a lubricant, or at least it can be. Not to be confused with wax for surfboards. My theory is that in liquid form it gets sucked into the threads via wicking action and prevents the binding of rust on rust when trying to turn the nut, but that's just my 2 cents. This probably won't work for nuts that are over-tightened, just ones that are rusted in place,

eric3579 said:

They said that in the video, but what is it about wax in the threads that breaks it free?

THE CRUELTY BEHIND OUR CLOTHING - WOOL

Mordhaus says...

The National Farmers Federation says that “mulesing remains the most effective practical way to eliminate the risk of ‘flystrike’ in sheep” and that “without mulesing up to 3,000,000 sheep a year could die a slow and agonising death from flystrike”.

A fiber farmer is heavily invested in the health and well being of their animals for the simple reason that an animal that isn’t happy and healthy can’t produce a sell-able product. An animal going through a period of stress of any kind produces a fiber that breaks.

Wool fiber has properties that make it unequaled by many other natural fibers/ Lanolin is also a critical oil that cannot be replaced with other oils. Lanolin and its many derivatives are used extensively in both the personal care (e.g., high value cosmetics, facial cosmetics, lip products) and health care sectors. Lanolin is also found in “lubricants, rust-preventative coatings, shoe polish, and other commercial products”

In some cases, the products derived from sheep make up a very large portion of a country's GDP. Banning sheep farming could cripple a country like New Zealand economically.

That said, obviously there are some horrible scenes in the video. Obviously there needs to be more oversight to control abuse to the animals. However, I would like to point out that the video did cherry pick a couple of companies that had egregious policies. Also, if the mulesing that was shown was part of the PETA video, it was staged with a fake lamb. PETA even admitted they staged that video for 'educational' purposes. I don't know if it was the same clip, but just putting that out there.

Spooky earthflow in Russia

Retroboy says...

Agree, you can clearly see their ceramic wire insulators at 1:45.

As to what caused it, looks like melt water caused lubrication between an extended slanted field of topsoil and a clay base. I live near a beach with a eighty-foot cliff that's quite similar, and in the earliest spring, large chunks of it slide down along that wet clay to pool at the bottom. In this case, the hills are so distant that the pressure became huge enough to completely bulldoze everything in front of it.

I dub it a "slowvalanche".

While I don't doubt the hills have been mined or deforested, the structures you see I believe are high voltage trunk line supports, not cranes and drag lines.
