have read a number of Lee descendants were okay w/removing his statues, too. by now, i'd hope, most folks know R.E.L. said statues weren't gonna be helpful.

“I think it wiser, not to keep open the sores of war but to follow the examples of those nations who endeavored to obliterate the marks of civil strife, to commit to oblivion the feelings engendered.”

of course, he was talking about a gettysburg memorial, so maybe he was reluctant to have a memorial at the site of his gravest error.

but the issue is like most things: complicated. like the lincoln emancipation memorial. get how the couchant slave is a downer, but the fact former slaves paid for its erection, the model for the slave was t.s. eliott grandpa's gardener, a former escaped slave, and is mohammed ali's direct ancestor - is kinda cool. maybe worth having around just to explain all the details around its history.

Actually it is my history. I was born and raised in Houston, and have blood ties to Lee.
I probably have some family that helped install the statues too.
I can't change that.

That doesn't mean in order to remember the war of Southern Secession (see what I did there?) I must celebrate it. Statues are for heros, the back pages of history books are for traitors.

STUNG by a GIANT HORNET!

newtboy says...

Isn't that always true in any situation (like cowbell)? ;-)

You can buy mantis egg clusters for your garden from most nurseries, they hatch out by the hundreds. I buy a few every year, but rarely see full sized mantises (mantes) in my garden, and never new egg clusters. I did catch one a few Octobers back before it got cold and kept it alive until spring in my window plants, but I think they normally die before it freezes outside...hornet queens hibernate underground if I remember correctly. :-(

When you buy a safe that is less than $100 you'd be a fool to put valuables in it.

If you by a safe that is $5,000 you'd be fool to use it for your garden shed keys.

Again, not 1 witness Shift brought forward can factually claim that Trump did any crime.

Beat you troll chest as much as you want there is no there there.

Every day Democrats point a finger at Trump it gets smacked down by truth.

You need a #walkaway moment. Come to you senses son.

?????????????????? Trump rape and murder young boys then defend him. ??????????????? WTF what false lie are you pushing .
No wonder you not worth reading. Such drivel.

Stay in your garden and leave hard thinking to men.

1) you're wrong. None have said they personally heard Trump explicitly tie the aid to his demands, but many have said he himself tied the white house meeting to his demand for a political gift, which is a crime, and just as many have said it was clear the funding was tied too, and never did anyone at the Whitehouse contradict that in any way, even when asked directly, until they knew they were under investigation.
2) trump himself released the summary transcript in which he ties the funding to the investigations of political rivals and nothing else. Even your stage 5 cranial rectosis can't shield you from that inconvenient truth.

A majority still say he should not only be impeached, but removed from office.

*facepalm. The lack of direct witnesses is because of Trump's obstruction, telling subordinates to ignore subpoenas. That alone is impeachable.
You probably mean they can call unrelated red herrings like Biden who has zero bearing on the charges.
1/2 the republican question time was wasted by them giving whining speeches about how they can't ask questions, and 1/4 spent whining that they can't use this time to investigate Biden....who has never been accused of anything illegal you might note. Edit: ....and the whistleblower, because clearly it's important to know who they are in order to destroy their lives, but not for any other possible reason.
Using impeachment to investigate political rivals and harass whistleblowers instead of investigating the president isn't going to help win independents, the only voters in play. Lose the Senate, which is likely, and Trump will be the first president to be impeached twice if he remains in office.

Oh Bobby, who cried the last two election nights? Not Democrats. I wasn't even surprised Trump won. I called that in spring 2016 when the DNC was caught helping Clinton and screwing Sanders.

You are right on one point, when the Turtle gets the case, he's going to tank it and Trump won't even get a slap on the wrist, but only because party loyalty is far more important to Republicans than national loyalty or rule of law, not because he didn't commit more crimes. In that sense, Democrats have lost. We all have.

But I don't write to you, it's for others who maybe wouldn't watch Trump rape and murder young boys then defend him. There is literally nothing he could do to make you stop riding his dick. Absolutely nothing. I'm not trying to convince you. You're a lost cause....and likely a Russian troll.

That is English, motherfucker, do YOU speak it?

Espalier: a fruit tree or ornamental shrub whose branches are trained to grow flat against a wall, supported on a lattice or a framework of stakes.

It's not an advanced or unused word, especially for orchard owners and gardeners.

Edit: I will not be dumbing down my vocabulary to accommodate someone else...they can choose to learn or remain ignorant of their own native tongue. I shall not become a lowest common denominator speaker....that only serves to make us all as dumb as Trump.

I have 30 Apple trees, 7-10 cherry trees, peach, nectarines, etc. That means I've read through dozens of gardening books trying to learn how to keep them alive and bearing.

My loquacious lexicon, while not always perspicacitious or erudite, is invariably sesquipedalian if not also outright eldritch. Thank my mom, a top notch professional editor, head of Stanford's publishing wing for decades....also, I like to be weird, especially considering what "normal" is today.

Edit:I also enjoy my "lost word of the day" calendars that offer a word or phrase of the day that's been lost to common English.

Cop Tries To Ride Dirty On Confiscated Bike And Crashes

Drachen_Jager says...

I know many Americans have a tendency to put cops on a pedestal, politicians and media outlets talk about how "dangerous" policing is and how they have to do a tough job under constant threat of violence while completely ignoring that part of the threat of violence comes because of police misbehaviour. It's also not a very dangerous job. Statistically, being a gardener is more dangerous than being a cop. You don't see gardeners stabbing random black shrubs with shovels and quoting the dangers of their profession to justify it do you?

Most of the problem of out-of-control policing is because they're held up as holy warriors, haloed in glittering samite, when they're just people, and many of them are BAD people.

The whole hero cop myth just needs to die, but it won't because Americans, by and large, are cowards. Afraid of the shadows, afraid of black men, afraid of foreigners, muslims, anything or anybody "different". You think you NEED cops to be tough, rugged heroes to save you from the things that go bump in the night. You NEED cops to be brutal and without remorse, killing at the slightest provocation because they're "just doing their jobs". Otherwise every street corner would have a mugger ready to rob you blind.

Truth is, the vast majority of Americans have been the victim of a crime. They probably didn't even know it, and you can be sure the cops never investigated. Wage theft in America amounts to far more than all other criminal activity combined. It's intentional and ongoing. Until the Walton family is in chains the cops will never truly be in your corner. They are a tool of people like the Waltons. Their job is not to protect you, it's to protect the status quo. If protecting you helps maintain that status quo, then that's what they'll do. If not.... well, ask Willie McCoy about that.
