HULK BODYBUILDER VS SCHOOLBOY ARM WRESTLING

newtboy says...

That body builder couldn’t lift a piece of paper….
….if you taped it to his back.

I never understand the thought behind creating huge muscles that limit your range of motion so much. Sure, you can bench 500 lbs, but can you even scratch your own nose? I’m much more impressed by rock climbers that can do one pinky pull-ups all day long but look like weak computer nerds until their shirts come off.

Why GM Says Its Ultium Batteries Will Lead To EV Dominance

newtboy says...

Um…My last math class (besides taking statistics as an elective) was advanced placement B-C calculus, where I excelled. How about you?
And when do you think I said I’m a math teacher? Another delusion.
I told you for approximately the 29th time my work resume just days ago, and already you know absolutely nothing about it. Just wow. Exactly what I said would happen. I won’t say you have the memory of a gnat….that would be insulting gnats and giving you too much credit.
I’ve never been a teacher, I did edit the teachers edition of a third grade math book when I was 13…is that what you’re misremembering?

Elon himself said publicly he plans a 10% reduction in salaried workers including line workers with only 3 exceptions for battery builders, Solar installers, and car builders….but including thousands of maintenance, construction, design, quality control, new line manufacturing, etc, not just white collar, and rehiring hundreds as hourly no benefits workers, not increasing his workforce. Also announced a hiring freeze worldwide.

Maybe you dont know math that well -- And your a math teacher? So you say. Seems like you are doing a disservice to you students.

10% reduction of force of white collar jobs but hires hundred of workers for the auto lines.

Insane $3000 Steam Punk Puzzle Box! - Solved!

cloudballoon says...

Maybe it's the model builder in me, but for that money, I'd go for any DeAgostini model kits. The construction is super intricate that'll take more than a few hours, the finished models are like museum-level art pieces.

Hmm... maybe sell me this puzzle box in pieces that I can build myself in 70+ hours for $200 and I might bite. The process of building it must be more enjoyable.

Miami Beach condo collapse

Mordhaus says...

Yeah, I initially was disturbed by the sinking, but one of the architects they spoke to about it said if it was uneven sinking it would be easily spotted by tenants due to the cracking of floors, walls, and ceilings. They are also saying it is a classic example of pillar failure, which the building rests on, but they can't be certain of what caused it. It could be poor quality concrete or spalling, if that is found it is definitely the builder's fault.

newtboy said:

Yeah...it was a bad joke based on similar statements said in all seriousness by right wing representatives bragging about how easy they made development, and how much they were pro business. Now that deaths are reported, I retracted it. I thought the building was empty when I wrote it.
That said, if it is a 'failure to meet code' issue, then at least the 'code enforcement' part would be on point, even if in extremely bad taste.

12 cm is huge if only some parts sank and others didn't. That's why I always found downtown Houston scary, all those high rises built before 90 are sinking at different rates. They have tunnels connecting some that were flat when built and now are all ramps, some too steep to use! Yikes!

‘This is not a zoo’: Biden administration blocks filming

"I really don't care, do you?"- Trump

Trump had a plan? You mean the plan to demonize all non white foreigners as lowlife criminals coming from shitholes because it appeals to his racist base, or his plan to funnel federal money to his donors to "build" (in quotes because many of the no bid contracts went to donors who weren't builders and their poorly built sections fell apart in under a year) his useless wall by playing on his bases fear of non white foreigners?
Trump never had a plan that didn't end with him walking away with the money.

Trump cared more than Biden.

I've always cared. Come in legally, so you wont end up trafficked and or packed in Covid infected cages.

So are you finally realizing Trump had a better plan?

kris kobach, has Message About Building the Wall

newtboy says...

In case you live under a rock, "We Build the Wall" is a fraudulent charity who's administrators have been charged with embezzlement, and who's only construction was illegally built so poorly that it was in danger of falling into the Rio Grande within months of completion....their builder, Fisher, now has billions in government construction contracts after Trump personally approved them over objections, despite hundreds of criminal complaints against the company and it's owner, thousands of civil complaints, and a complete inability to build even a tiny section of wall.
Then there's the sexual discrimination they admitted, and massive tax fraud they admitted, and the child pornography convictions (now I know why Trump loves them, birds of a feather and all).

Portal - The Sound Of Science

BSR says...

I've been steadily creating Portal 2 maps with the Workshop for a few months now. I really enjoy it. I don't get into making brain splitting puzzles but rather making different ways to add personality and creativity with just the basic map builder. Some actions are behind the scenes to make things work seemingly on their own.

But yeah. Portal 3.

Robot drywall installer

ChaosEngine says...

It doesn't matter if it takes 10 times as long if it's 1% of the cost. This thing can work 24/7 without needing any breaks at all.

I'm in the process of designing and building a house right now (as in, I'm paying an architect and builder, not doing it myself).

If my builder came to me and said "hey, we can drop the labour cost of building by 50%, but your house will take an extra month", I'd sign that so fast his head would spin.

Because it's meant to replace a human. If it's wheeled, or something, then it can't go up stairs effectively.

I mean, it's already shitty enough at the job. Seems to take a long time even with the edits in there, not to mention it seems incapable of installing anything other than full sheets on a perfectly flat wall made specifically to dimensions it was pre-programmed for. It'll be a long time before anything like this is actually taking jobs away in significant numbers.

Why California's Musical Road Sounds Terrible

MilkmanDan says...

This is why engineers need to interface with somebody that straddles both worlds instead of talking directly to builders, customers, etc. Gotta have somebody that can properly translate nerd-speak into blue-collar / civilian.

Where in the world is it easiest to get rich? Surprise.

vil says...

Nice plan - utilize the parts of American capitalism that work = find oil.

The ideals of a social democracy to create a better future = high taxes, high prices, social spending for loyal norwegians, strict moral and legal rules. Make sure to make up lots of first world problems to compensate for the awesomness.

Sell oil, buy Teslas. Have lots of mountains + rain to power Teslas.

Plus you have to already be rich to even contemplate visiting Norway, nevermind somehow get rich easy there. Tip on how to get rich in Norway? Be a tunnel builder.

Free education may mean more social mobility but it also creates a truckload of sociologists.

I like Finland. Its flat and no oil, but almost as successful. How are they doing it?

Donald and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad ...

Mordhaus says...

I'm not a professional debater, everything I have said has been my honest point of view, and at least I have been fairly civil during our discourse.

In almost every post, you accuse me of trying to spread falsehoods, make claims about my intelligence, and generally come off as accusatory towards me as a person. Like I said, I don't do this professionally and I never took debate in school, so perhaps this is what people do when they are discussing an issue they disagree upon. I simply do not know.

Perhaps I should have referred to encouraged instead of forced, I do not believe they were encouraged specifically to come here. If they had access to a similar country, with a similar standard of living, and with a porous border they might have went there. Again, I don't know.

Yes, businesses in the United States took advantage of their labor to make more profits. How is that my fault? I don't own a business, I don't employ illegals, and I am a common middle class citizen. I can't pick and choose where I shop, where I eat, or other daily lifestyle choices based off of what people businesses are hiring. I am comfortable in my savings, but only the truly upper class elite can try to spend extraordinary amounts of their discretionary income to avoid getting products sourced from places they might disagree with. The sad thing is, at least in my experience, is that those people are far more likely to directly exploit the labor of illegals as nannies, builders, or lawnscapers.

In any case, as I mentioned earlier, I respect your opinions even if I don't share them. Have a wonderful weekend.

Drachen_Jager said:

You're extremely disingenuous, you drift into logical fallacies regularly (and apparently by accident). If you're not going to address the meat of the issue honestly, there's just no point.

Nobody ever said they were "forced" this is called the "straw man" fallacy.

American business took advantage of their labor, YOU took advantage of their labor, now that you're done, you just want to throw them away.

I do agree on one point though, there is no further point in debating with you.
