Arrested for Drinking Arizona Iced Tea in parking lot

newtboy says...

Two reasons.
1. If you don't exorcize your rights, you lose them. My forefathers fought and died to procure my (and his) rights, it's unthinkably disrespectful to not avail myself of them every-single-time. In this case, an unreasonable search.
2. Complying often does not avoid escalation.

Like almost all of these situations, things would have gone a lot more smoothly if the guy had just given him the can. If complying with a quick, simple and relatively benign request can avoid escalation, why not do it?

FlowersInHisHair says...

What are you capitulating? What are you losing? How does gay people getting married affect your life in any way? Can you give me a reason beyond "I don't like it"?

Why should any society capitulate for such an insignificant demographic group?

Unfortunately, not uncommon in the slightest. I've done two jobs like this (at a previous employer and at my current job when we tore down the server room to install proper heat tunnels as our 1990's vintage air con wasn't keeping our server room under 35 deg cel).

People don't fix lazy patches (and it's not really advisable to pull cables during production because wackiness ensues), so eventually you end up with an awful mess. When someone does decide to clean it up, you have so many systems (and associated downtime) that management baulks at committing, reasoning that "if it's working, don't fuck with it". Then you reach the inevitable disaster point where you lose a vital system and cannot fix it because you lost a cable in the mess.

Longer patches get used to go around the monstrous mess created and eventually get buried as more and more are added, or repatching is done. Or it's the only cable they had on hand. Or they can't be bothered getting a more sensibly sized patch. ; )

It also looks like they were fixing up the fibre channel patches at the same time.

@ CharlieM, 3 days according to the white time stamp in the top left corner ; ).

Odd that when they started, it seemed they had used 10 foot long cables to span 1 foot distances on every connection.
That's going to be so much nicer for them to work with now. Good work guys.

Cop Smashes Cell Phone For Recording Him

lantern53 says...

Name-calling, you lose.

Perhaps you should call newtboy, he sounds like a good street lawyer who can drum up 20 charges out of one incident.

Don't you people think that one reason no other cop came around was because they are doing a raid on a gang of some sort, and they don't need to be distracted by one dipshit who got distracted by a woman with a phone?

Use the brains that God gave you, except for you atheists who can use the brains that evolved over millions of years.

I'm still waiting to hear what kind of jobs you guys do, because I'm interested in knowing the one job in the world that attracts perfect people who always behave perfectly.

Cop Smashes Cell Phone For Recording Him

bobknight33 says...

Aren't you over reaching on this?

If you trashed my phone like that should you lose you job? Say this occurs at your work. I come up to you and start filming. Should you loose you job? As you said "we've got assault and battery, armed robbery, destruction of private property,..." The answer is no.

The cop was a dick and should pay for a new phone and apologize to the lady. His supervisor should reprimand him but not much else, unless its a pattern.

newtboy said:

Let's see...we've got assault and battery, armed robbery, destruction of private property, destruction of evidence...and probably a few more crimes here. I won't be surprised in the least if there's not a single crime charged, however.

Cop Smashes Cell Phone For Recording Him

lantern53 says...

So, you think cops should be treated the same as everyone else? Ok, then, arrest him, charge him with criminal damaging, he has to pay a fine to the court, and he goes back to work the next day.

Is that what you want?

No, you want him fired.

But does losing your job, your pension...is that a fair trade for busting someone's phone? If you went out and broke your neighbor's phone, should you lose your job, your pension for life?

Just asking.

Porn Actress Mercedes Carrera LOSES IT With Modern Feminists

GenjiKilpatrick says...

We'll start with the "youtube comments are toxic".

We're in agreement. Even youtube agrees.

While it's unfortunate that the comment cream doesn't rise on youtube..

This still doesn't eliminate that fact that tons of valid criticism is being censored by Sark & plenty of other unscrupulous agenda-pushers.

It's a perfect opportunity to squash any dissent, under the guise of -

"there is no real debate here. only insults & threats. I had to disable comments to spare my audience the vitriol"

However, imagine if the youtuber was an outspoken Scientologist or Creationist..

Snowball's chance in hell you aren't viewing that as a deceitful tactic to avoid scrutiny.

"Everyone knows creationism is easily debunked/scientology is a cult. Clearly they've disabled comments because they want to squash dissent/valid arguments"

Rarely, if ever, would you think -

"Disabled comments? I get it. They probably just got too many death threats. Scientologists have feelings too yuh know"

Nonetheless, when the EXACT SAME scenario is put in front of you..

..with regard to topics that tug at your liberal, tree-huggy sympathies..

You lose all skepticism. Why is that?

Literally all it takes is a 30 second google search to discover the inconsistencies in Sarkeesian's statements & actions.

From the first article -
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the words of Tumblr user robbiebaldwin:
“She says she wants to ‘create a dialogue’ or ‘force video games into open debate,’ except she turns off both comments and even ratings on her videos. Wanting to hear your own voice in an echo chamber is the total opposite of ‘open debate.’”
Leading the charge against Sarkeesian’s decision is Tumblr user amazingatheist, who posted a ten-minute video entitled "Who’s The Damsel Now?"
Arguing that Sarkeesian’s “censorship” of YouTube comments counteracts her message about strong women
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Are you seeing the larger picture now @newtboy @Babymech etc.?

This self-described - "critic of sexism in pop culture" - is espousing a set of ideas & strong statements..

Then completely cowering, juking, and being absolutely non-responsive when called on her shit.

She disabled the RATINGS for FSM's sake!
The neutral, objective, non-threatening, non-absuive RATINGS!

That's the way you stand strong for your cause, right!
By disallowing even your supporters from showing their approval!

And before you even mention that cancel lecture of hers.

WHAM!

BAM!

Straight from Utah State -

"Throughout the day, Tuesday, Oct. 14, USU police and administrators worked with state and federal law enforcement agencies to assess the threat to our USU community and Ms. Sarkeesian. Together, we determined that there was no credible threat to students, staff or the speaker, and that this letter was intended to frighten the university into cancelling the event."

They were all "Please don't cancel. We love con-artists! We're Mormons, remember!"

*TooLong,Don'tGiveaFuck*

Anita Sarkeesian is a self-proclaimed pop-culture critic..

Who claims that she wants to 'create a dialogue' & 'force video games into open debate'..

She then proceeds to disallow any & all discourse or scrutiny of her work - positive or negative - going so far as to disable like & dislike ratings on her videos.

Oh and I forgot to add..

She conveniently forgot to disable the vitriol 'whining' on her Kickstarter page until AFTER those comments boosted her campaign to over $150,000 in donations.

[i'll search for the video while you whine about citing sources]

BUT AGAIN! THIS ISN"T JUST ABOUT HER!
It's the overall debacle & all the stupid articles surrounding it.

Tho first I have to slog thru this shitstorm because you're easily distracted by syntax & word choice.

Shit, this is pointless.

Oh well. Done for now.

LOL! Too funny coming from you after your past comments, you probably don't even realize what you wrote. I believe citizen arrests are investigated like you said, but not the one's made by officers, which you tried to imply. There is no accountability for most criminal cops, and you know it well.

I hate to tell you, but a citizen would loose their job, especially if their job entailed driving, but often even if not, and it costs an average of over $15000. Sounds like some serious strings got pulled for this drunk driving cop to still be employed and only fined <$5K.
You are a repeatedly caught bold faced liar (and likely lie in your 'duties' as a cop, causing irreparable damage to people's lives with those lies), so you have no standing to call someone else a liar, and no, I don't lie even about little things (there's no such thing as a white lie) and it gets me into trouble all the time, so fuck you you whining tantrum throwing baby. My parents raised me to be honest at all times, so I'm no liar, unlike you.

By your own stated rules, because you had no argument against my post so devolved into name calling, you lose another argument...the last one with me, you aren't worth a minute of my abundant free time.

When a racist brings up race in a negative connotation time and time again, they should be called a racist...you trolling racist bastard.....and ignore.

lantern53 said:

Where I work, accountability is something that is taken very seriously. If a citizen makes an arrest, the facts are investigated and if the departmental policy was broken, the person was reprimanded, suspended, or fired.

We had a cop who had an accident while DUI. He was suspended, busted in grade, an interlock was installed in his vehicle...it probably cost him over $5000 total.

A rookie cop we had was calling up women he met on the job and asking them out, he was shitcanned immediately.

Also, thanks for playing the race card, I knew that wouldn't take long.

you hold the fundamentalist mindset.
you are convinced of your righteousness.
you are a true believer and any information contrary to your worldview will be deemed "heretical" and shall be automatically deemed "wrong" and dismissed on those grounds.

Guy Has Seizure While Skydiving

oohlalasassoon says...

Uh huh. Have an excruciatingly painful grand mal seizure a few times, where you lose consciousness(thankfully) from lack of oxygen because you literally cannot draw breath, waking up not knowing who you are for an hour, then tell me you won't change your behavior and bucket list to avoid it (oh, and the death) in the future. Easy to say, harder to do.

Red Neck trucker says NO to this blonde trying to merge...

newtboy says...

I put "safe" in quotation marks, indicating it was safe to the extent that there was room, with a car length behind and ahead, not actually safe. That is how most people drive in town, or with less room, and would have been safe if the truck had not sped up to try to block her.
You have no idea what kind of driver I am, that's not me in the car. I would not have tried to pass, and if I did you better believe it would have been faster and more complete than the driver here. I have consistently said she was unsafe to do what she did. You can drop the ad hom for me too, I've been driving for over 28 years including 5 years of delivery service, with one accident due to black ice (no one else involved) and I did off road racing for years as well. I'm almost a professional driver, how about you?
Not having a cell phone law making it illegal, and it being the reason you lose a civil suit have little to do with each other. It's proven that it's unsafe to do, no matter what your state law is on the subject.
Once again, she was unsafe, as was the trucker. The trucker intentionally made it more unsafe and caused an accident he could and should have easily avoided. No matter what else you argue, that makes it 100% his fault in my state.

jmd said:

#1 that is NOT a safe distance... bringing me back to my point, you probably don't realize how bad of a driver you are. That is NOT a safe distance AND they are passing on the right... that is TWO wrongs.

#2 many states don't have a cell phone law for driving. Including mine. Although that did not stop me from honking the ever living shit out of a driver I saw who had a black berry mounted on his windshield and was trying to type on it while driving.

Crazy street racing! Peel Kart Race - On Board

Khufu says...

You can go way faster when you aren't fighting wind resistance, the closer you get to someone the faster you can accelerate towards them, but the moment you try passing, you get the full force of the wind on you, and you lose speed. So could have been the other cart had more power, or could be the driver filming this was bigger/heavier.

SFOGuy said:

Can someone who understands this explain something to me? He appeared to reel that yellow car right in---but then couldn't pass him. Why? Was the other car slower but had better brakes, so he could stuff him into each corner? Or did the other driver get faster when he realized he'd been caught?
Or something else?

kept looking for the pass and it never happened.
