Actually a lot of people think about that. There was a pretty big outcry when it was announced that the Kinect for the Xbox one would essentially be on all the time (or at least would have to be plugged in all the time), and Microsoft eventually had to come out and say that they had gotten rid of this requirement.

That's a fair shout. There's going to be different market segments for this and for me I doubt I could accommodate the camera physically, if it's anything like Kinect.
Looks like it could be fun for family situations though. I could even see that aliens demo being expanded into a game.

In the UK I note that the PS4+camera still comes in cheaper than the Xbone. Interesting.

This video uses both (new one for the always-on controversy) and old one for the beer-robot. Which is OK, cause it's a comedy piece.

The first Kinect could do facial detection to login to a xbox live account, but it requires good lighting, and isn't very fast (for me, it could never get past calibration, so I don't use that feature- games work fine without it). The new one is supposed to do this (login) better, but also detects facial expressions in real time, like if the player is smiling.

Echoing the need for the change to "Lewis". That made me double-take as well.

Aside from that, did they say it was the Xbox 360 Kinect that could do facial detection? Because I know that is an intended feature for the XboxOne.

Kinect for 360 can't detect facial features, but it's still great for robots.

I'm getting the impression people are getting a little overly bent out of shape about the Xbox One's convergence features.

Spec-wise it's all but identical to the PS4 so no apparent compromise has been made on performance. Hardware similarity will also all but guarantee easy ports. If anything I reckon this gen will be the closest we get to platform neutrality because of this.

For all its focus on non-game features MS must know that games sell consoles. They would be foolish in divesting away from first party titles or exclusives. If they get more purchases via spruiking their TV integration that will put them in a better position to pay for these.

Force bundling Kinect will surely inflate the price but it remains to be seen by how much. If they price themselves outside the PS4's range and people feel like it's an unnecessary accessory they won't use then it will hurt them obviously. Having said that, it's functionality actually looks genuinely interesting (and powerful) unlike their first Kinect beta test.

At least for me what's always turned me off Xbox and eventually convinced me to get a PS3 is the paid multiplayer. Coming from a PC I reckon it's flat out outrageous to charge people for what is effectively P2P quality multiplayer, let alone to them smother the hub with advertising. This will obviously not change for the One so I have no intention of giving them my money.

And if there's really this 'no used game' feature, I guess gamefly won't be supporting them. There's a reason right there to not buy one. It seems to me that they implemented a huge number of features that I (and maybe most others) just don't care about at all, or even dislike. I don't want to pay for the ability to watch TV or integrated Kinect (there's a reason I never bought it).

I sure hope they come out with the non-Kinect, non-disk tied, non-TV watching version for the rest of us soon, or we'll all have a ps4 and simply reminisce about playing Halo and Gears. HUGE misstep.

The presentation wasn't terrible, it was just full of "who gives a shit?" TV features? Don't give a shit. More Kinect? Never gave a shit in the first place. Halo tv series? Unless it's a game, don't give a shit. Sports games? REALLY don't give a shit. Call of Doody MW4? Stopped giving a shit a while ago

They just need the same technology in gloves or as you say a kinect mapping all your movements, a pad on which you can walk in every direction.

After buying countless, differing versions of the original trilogy over the years, surviving the prequels, and seeing what a mess the entire franchise has become, Star Wars has long since been dead to me. After Indy 4, Lucas deserves to have his arms torn off by the proverbial Wookie.

I'm just glad he didn't have any hand in the Back to the Future movies.
