dystopianfuturetodaysays...TOTAL CARNAGE! I think this primary season is about to get really ugly.
bobknight33says...Another-one bites the dust. RIP Newt
Psychologicsays...Technically that would be much closer to "traditional marriage" than what a lot of conservatives preach.
NetRunnersays...I actually feel bad about posting something like this. The scandalous part of this is how Newt treated his wife, not the concept of "open marriage" itself, and I know that's not how the ensuing media coverage will talk about it.
There's nothing here that disqualifies Newt from the Presidency. What he's openly proclaiming in order to win support from the GOP base is what should disqualify him from elected office of any sort, let alone the Presidency.
But this, this will probably kill his chances of winning the South Carolina primary.
It's a mad, mad world.
Drachen_Jagerjokingly says...To be fair, she's not very attractive... So, can you blame the guy?
braindonutsays...Meh. I don't care. Unfortunately for Newt, I'm not the person he's worrying about getting a vote from.
Trancecoachsays...To be fair, "traditional marriage," as the mainstream populace believes in it, is a fallacy, and does not necessarily constitute an achievable way of relating between fully human individuals. that being said, the middle of the country is going to have a hard time accepting Newt as one of their own after this one makes the evening news.
Jinxsays...Why is his past private relationships relevant? And I don't know the full story, but how exactly did he treat his ex-wife poorly?
I have nothing against open relationships/marriage. People can arrange their relationships however they please. The expectation that your politicians should have flawless love lives is just unrealistic and unfair. Again, I don't know the specifics so maybe he did something particularly vile, but on the whole I don't think politicians personal lives should be dragged up.

I entirely agree with you, except that this is Newt Gingrich, who led the impeachment against Clinton for (lying about) his own affair.
dystopianfuturetodaysays...She is several attractiveness levels higher than Porky McJowls. >> ^Drachen_Jager:

Yogisays...THIS is how to get me to vote for you! Open marriages FTW!
heropsychosays...I wouldn't care except he's made numerous speeches about the sanctity of marriage, and it's a big part of the conservative movement. It pisses me off to no end that conservatives can equate Obama to Hitler or Stalin, but could consider supporting this guy.
Personally, out of this group of Republicans left, Gingrich would be my second choice, but it doesn't change the fact that he should be repugnant to conservatives.

Boy did I get that one wrong. Who knew playing the victim of the eeeevil liberal media would catapult him to a landslide victory in SC?
I need to remember that this is the Confederate party, not the Republican one.
