Making Sex Work

Good, long talk by quite a few girls about their view of feminism, girls, prostitution and related issues.

I can honestly say I didn't watch this for the cleavage (Because there is hardly any. And I looked.)

Now here's a great thinker with a correlating view :

Probably because there isn't room for all of them and she's the only one most people have heard of. Here's the rest of them:

Great vid. Some of the arguments are a little off, but otherwise great.

I do agree that these things should be legal indeed.

Of course, it's always interesting asking the same people how they'd feel about their daughter being a sex working or working in porn. Quite often they can spout a glib 'well, if she's happy, then I'd be all for it' response. But you really know that they would be horrified to know their daughter felt that it was the best way for her to make money.

Myself and my wife have this issue with porn. We watch it yes, and hate with a passion any porn that shows a woman being mistreated (gagged, forced, head held or any of the commonplace 'norms' that are creeping into 'mainstream' porn these days)... but even when you're watching porn where the woman is treated well, you can't help but feel that at the end of the day the woman really would rather not be doing porn at all.

We've watched a few documentaries who follow women in porn and they are sad, sad tales no matter the image they try to project on screen and off during their career.

Yes, the message in this video is correct, criminalizing these industries is ridiculous, legalizing and policing conditions in them is a great idea. Just being flippant about the effects of porn these days on people is a little naive I think.

Hardcore porn IS to freely available to those that are too young to process it properly.

Anyway, I'm sort of off topic... I just think crying that porn has no negative effects is wrong, and I really, really dislike the trend into extreme, denigrating porn that is everywhere now.

There are plenty of other jobs that people have that a parent wouldn't want their child to do. So what if the parent doesn't like it? Freedom isn't about an adult child doing whatever makes their parents happy. Neither is paying the bills. Regarding porn, while you may believe that an act is mistreatment, someone else may crave being treated that way. But maybe someone doing porn for a living would rather be doing something else... just like millions of other people that hate their jobs.

I guess I should watch the video now...

Indeed. Also, because it was posted on her YouTube channel.

@spoco Yes, children watch this and cannot process it. An orgy of the mind at a young age makes things very boring at the puberty age and beyond. Of course, people will spout off, "Parental responsibility blah blah," but that is just plain, oh, what's the word, impossible? Yes... Unless of course you gag your child and place him safely in a closet until they are able to make their own decisions (18.) There is simply little a parent can do against the availability of porn in every venue of life.

I love equal rights for women. I love how sad women have become in the cut-throat world of work and business, detached from their homes as they mindlessly drone about their day like real men (I could find the statistics that denote women are becoming less happy, but I am lazy right now.) I love how women are able to go to war and can't handle it just like their male counterparts. I love it! They wanted sadness; they got what they asked for. Of course there are many exceptions, that goes without saying. I am just glad overall.

Yes, like suicide bomber. Parents just need to suck it up! If their kids pay the bills "differently" than they pay the bills differently. Of course I am speaking of other countries where that is asked of every religious patriot, but heck, their freedom is their freedom and that's what is important! Score one for freedom! Negative one for humanity though.

Why would anyone think this is NSFW?

^word, what could possibly make this NSFW?

Also, excellent talk. There is abuse in almost all industries, as well as at home, sadly.

@Lawdeedaw's pathetic and thinly veiled nostalgia for patriarchy (or does the sarcasm cover for simple misogyny?), did you know that one of the leading causes of death in women aged 15-65 is domestic violence and spousal abuse?

As for statistics, the top "happiest countries" are also the top "gender empowerment" countries?

rebuildersays...

Gender equality. What a messy topic. Maybe in 20 to 50 years we'll see discussion of individuals' rights instead of women's and men's rights. Right now it seems practically no-one manages to talk about it without at the same time in some way upholding the idea that ones gender is something one should be loyal to.

More like negative one for arguments that make any sense. Did you seriously just compare pornography and prostitution to terrorism? That makes no sense at all.
>> ^Lawdeedaw:

No, actually I did not compare prostituation to terrorism. I compared freedom of choice with freedom of choice. The response I posted was more towards the freedom first bs people always spout--as though freedom, a cold and emotionless tool, is great by itself. I like freedoms, heck, most freedoms, but some are outlandish...

Actually, I think women who ran their houses had more power than they do now. I think men are the helpless sex. We try and be the "strong" ones and destroy our personal lives and such for crap we don't need. We war, we slay, we fight in the business world until our souls are shadows.

I think it funny women wanted that... No offense.

Oh, and men who beat women should be capped at the knees. But, since my brother is abused by his wife (who has been arrested for her criminal act,) I find no sympathy for women who beat men either. Although women do it far less and to a lesser degree.

Soooo, my views are actually anti-patriarchy and I have no clue how you deemed them otherwise. I also have no clue where you note sarcasm. Women got what they wanted, good for them. I hope the costs are worth it...

Anyway, Boise - Some language used may not be appropriate for the office. I seem to recall one of them saying that they should be 'able to fuck anyone they want' or something. NSFW is usually added when such is contained, just in case :]

Interesting video, the girl in black and white annoyed me a bit though, seemed kinda like a teenage rebuttal "I should be able to DO ANYTHING I want with MY body." I agree with the statement, and I'm sure she does too. But if I was sending a message like this, I'd hope to do it with more sincerity and maintain eye contact by not reading a script and remembering the lines which would be so close to my principals.

When it comes to things like prostitution, buying/selling drugs, etc. I never understood how 2 adults who both consent to some type of transaction that in no way harms a 3rd party can be stopped by a 3rd party in any way shape or form.

Depends what drugs we are talking about. Pot? Not bad. Alcohol? Worse, but still not bad... Meth? Well, when your car is jacked for all four tires and your face is bashed in with a tire iron because Mr. Meth Head wants more meth, then we talk about one man's self-destructive actions.

As far as being a sex worker, I am all for that too. I think it should be required just like 2 years in the military.

hpqpsays...

@Lawdeedaw: I am sorry if I misunderstood you, I must have mistook your irony for sarcasm (or do you truly love the fact that some women are sad because they work?).

Two questions for you:

1) What do you think of "house-husbands"?

2) Where are those statistics?

@rebuilder: amen to that, but as long as discrimination based on gender is widespread in society (I'm looking at you, religion), the age of "individual's rights" is a far-off utopia.

Don't matter if its LSD wrapped in bacon and covered in cocain lol, 2 adults make a deal that doesn't hurt anyone else including no violent act towards each other, how the heck does a 3rd party (the cops in 99.99% of cases) have any true right to stop that?
The way I look at it is 2 guys make a deal, 3rd guy says No because he went to some school 100 miles away and a group of people youll never meet gave him a piece of paper, a shiny metal token, and a blue shirt and said now you have the "right" to go fuck with people

So incest is fine between to consenting adults? Dad is 55, daughter is 18, brainwashed and such, and that is cool? Wow...
