EMPIREsays...I've also read somewhere that it could be a lot more than 33 years.

Sniper007says...An average person can become fluent in any language in well under two years through proper immersion techniques.
gorillamansays...Takes a little longer for some people.

RedSkysays...The filum?
Retroboysays...I've read that Murray hated, HATED, filming the movie, so it might have actually seemed longer than that to the actor.
That being said, I think the author of this piece drastically overstated the times by doubling many days and assuming our reporter buddy needed to become an "expert" in all things. He spoke a phrase in french doesn't mean he is an expert in French. He knows some pieces on a piano doesn't mean he's an expert in all piano. And he could have taken a few hours of lessons and then grabbed the chainsaw to practice cutting the ice sculpture.
dannym3141says...I was just about to say i am willing to believe that he was in for hundreds of years, but the logic used to estimate is anybody's guess and everybody would say different. But then i read on youtube comments that it's meant to be allegorical for some ideal Buddhist length of time at around 10 thousand years, according to the director's commentary.
Fantomassays...According to Harold Ramis himself, 33 years is within the range he thought Phil was stuck.
lucky760says...It's like I said: I love this film. I've seen it over a hundred times. (I've probably seen it 150 times by now.)
I've always been of the belief he was stuck for over 100 years, not just because of the time to do and perfect the things he did and learned, but because of how difficult it would really be to completely eradicate all traces of selfishness, arrogance, and patronization and replace them with honest, deep compassion and consideration for others and with truly unselfish motives.
As an aside, I've always been extremely curious to know what exactly transpired between Murray and Ramis during the filming of this movie that cause the rift that was never mended even until Rarmis' passing.
ChaosEnginesays...I never really got the love for this movie. Yes, Bill Murray is great in it, but Bill Murray's pretty much awesome in everything, and a great premise is pretty much ruined by the central plot and then compounded by the inclusion of Andie McDowell.
It feels like there's a leaner, funnier movie in there, but it got derailed into boring romcom territory.
