As Peter Capaldi steps down as the Doctor, and Steven Moffat steps down from show runner, the series turns to Chris Chibnall as show runner, and a time for a new Doctor, played by Broadchurch lead...

<probably not enough spoiler space, especially as they are in the tag>

.... Jodie Whittaker
AeroMechanicalsays...

I kind of lost interest a few seasons back. There were still good episodes but for whatever reason I just wasn't into it overall anymore. Has it jumped the shark or is it just me?

"I draw the line in the dust and toss the gauntlet before the feet of tyranny, and I say misogyny now, misogyny tomorrow, misogyny forever..." The 13th Doctor's Haters.

ChaosEnginesays...

The last season was kinda average. Capaldi is great, but he hasn't been given enough to do, with a few notable exceptions (see his utterly amazing anti-war speech in the Zygon Inversion).

The bigger change here is less about Jodie Whittaker and more about Stephen Moffat stepping down as showrunner.

That said, I'm excited for this new doctor. First up, I like Whittaker as an actor. Second, I think a female Doctor will be interesting and finally, I have already gotten a seasons worth of amusement from butthurt MRA snowflakes whinging about "PC" or "SJWs" ruining Dr Who, despite the fact that we've already seen Time Lords change gender in show at least twice now.

I've not really been interested since Tennant left.

vilsays...

Does it still have the same spooky music intro?

I havent seen much of any Dr. but Baker, and at that time I was the target audience.

Somehow this seems more appropriate than female Bond and Ghostbusters.

I reckon the show went downhill after Baker left.

Esoogsays...

Its funny how you get attached to different doctors. I started watching again near the end of Tennant's run. When Matt Smith came on, I was blown away. After going back and watching all modern episodes, he's been my favorite by far. He was quirky with the ability to be seriously dramatic when needed.

And a lot of credit has to go to the companions as well. I mean, Amy, come on.

Looking forward to the new doctor. Couldnt get into Capaldi.

mramsays...

I grew up on Tom Baker. I have loved and hated some Doctors as they came and went.

What I've learned: give anyone a chance. They might surprise you, and often do. But if they don't, let it go - it's not the end of the show. Matt Smith I thought would be awful (Too young! No skills!) and I was completely and utterly wrong, and happy to be wrong. Life gives you easy lessons sometimes.

Magicpantssays...

I feel I'm alone in that I'd really like to see a female doctor, but I think Jodie Whittaker is completely wrong for the role. Simply put she's too meek, too serious, and too normal looking. I was really hoping for Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

enochsays...

after watching michelle gomez knock it out of the park playing missy (formerly known as the "master"),and knowing the lore of the timelords that they do,in fact, change gender.i do not really see what all the fuss is about.

i love capaldi and i think his doctor could have been better with stronger material, because when the stories were good, capaldi really shined.

and i am exactly where @mram is at.i too, thought matt smith would flub it and was pleasantly proved wrong.(though i still am a tennant and baker fan).

let's hope the new female doctor has some good material to work with, and see how she runs......
