Amazing Ant-Inspired Hexapod Robot Is Creepy As Hell

Youtube: A-Pod is an ant inspired hexapod robot with a 2 DOF abdomen (tail), a 3 DOF head with large mandibles. 6 legs with 3 DOF each. Total 25 servos. This video demonstrates body movement and mandible control. I still have to do some mechanical improvements to the legs (therefore little walking). The robot are remotely controlled with a custom 2,4 GHz RC transmitter.

Sound track: Lies by Trifonic (Instrumental).

I wonder how much of this is autonomus. That is, how detailed are the commands sent by the remote? Is it high-level like "rotate around neck", or low-level like "move joint 3"?

Also, judging by the soda can, this is hardly the size of an ant, which is why it's just ant-inspired.

Oh wait, i'm supposed to be creeped out by this! Aaaagghh!

It would be an awesome video if it wasn't for the constant ground humping complimented by the porn music. It has some very fluid movements. Other than when it tries to walk. It looks like a generic rigid robot walk.

First of all, that completely blew my mind away. I am so impressed.

Some of that though was because of how loosely the term robot i suppose can be used. When i was watching the video i thought it was completely autonomous, but then at the end it showed the remote control.

So it is slightly misleading to call it a robot, as calling it as such had led me to think it was using sensors to detect the pop and the claws control was based on sensors. At the end of the day though, the actuators is the impressive part of this contraption, as it is so fluid and lifelike; the sensors i'm sure this person has enough talent to put on there as well and make it truly a robot.

Regardless, it is an amazing feat of engineering.
