100,000 Paper Caps Explosion

Remember them paper caps you put in toy guns that made a loud bang? Well these guys got 100,000 of them and exploded them all at once just for the craic...

I once did that with a box of whipper snappers, but that's only 50 combined into one. It wasn't anywhere near this big of course, but it was bigger than everyone watching expected.

The reason that the bb gun was enough to make it explode was that the compression from the sticky tape made it possible for a couple of them going off to detonate all of it. If you watch the slow motion portion you can see the top of the ball, and it was pretty clearly not destroyed. My guess would be that the top was not taped down well enough and was ejected by the chaos below.

If you take a sphere of high purity Silly Putty and implode it within a shell of compressed caps, you can cause Silly Fission, it yields about two cups of Play-Dough and a ton of nitrous oxide.

Knowing how sensitive they were to friction, I'd be a little concerned that somewhere in the process of wrapping 100,000 (or even just 10,000) of the buggers into a ball I might jostle something ever-so-gently and end up 8 fingers short of a full set.
Even watching them plop it down onto the fencepost at the end had me cringing.

We used to hit these with rocks on the sidewalk in front of the house when I was a kid (late 60s, early 70s). Capguns were fun, too. My Colt must have killed more German soldiers than there were real German soldiers, and it beat yelling "uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh!"
