Girl swallowed by pavement in China

tsquire1 says...

Saying joking about rape is okay because it is like saying 'gay' for something that is 'lame' doesn't work. Gay (gay people) and lame (disabled people) shouldn't be pejoratives in the first place. Lets get creative with our vocabulary.

Saying joking about rape is okay because the people would really rape IRL doesn't work. The term gets used to validate oneself after 'dominating' an opponent. The validating is compared to sexual violence. Again, lets get creative.

I'm not saying you can't make a joke about rape. The clip above of Regi shows him trying. For me, I wouldn't think it is my place to try. Humor can be cathartic. I'll leave it to rape victims to try and make humor out of the situation for their own empowerment. It is similar to the use of the N word for hip-hop or black comedians: own your own experience to gain power.

Rape is one of the most under-reported forms of violence in the world. Go study what your actually talking about before accusing me of "being not-fun" (Really, that is all you got?). I don't care about being 'authoritarian' over humor. I'm not a liberal, I'm a communist, so while you would prefer pluralism with a rapist, I'd prefer peoples trial and street justice.

Here are some good blogs/posts to get a sense of what sexual violence means.

The fact that a comment critiquing rape culture gets downvoted, and one that promotes rape culture gets up voted, reveals a heavy nerdbro tendency on this site that is really quite sick.

No, I dont care if it is 'just a joke'. You infantile nethipsters that make these comments never have to worry about being raped, never have to worry about what they wear walking down the street and if it will promote 'catcalls'. You don't have to worry about facing violence by going out at night or, if you do get sexually assaulted, have to worry about who will even believe you.
Plainly, you have no idea what you are talking about.
That is why it is funny to you. Because you are that removed from reality. Your laughter is a privileged laughter. Your cynicism is anti-human.

Canada Gets Mandatory Minimum Sentencing and More Prisons

Better not vote in Obama either. Lesser of two evils? He signed in indefinite detention, bombs Pakistani children with drones, kills United States citizens abroad.
The solution is to build political power from below

If you pay right wingers to lock people up (say 20k of that 88k is net profit) they will lock up EVERYONE they can.
That's the end of the logic. No need for further complication.
As a side note, if they make money by fighting wars, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE AT WAR.
(If you want peace, safe clean food, healthcare, sanity, child protection, education... Better not vote in psychotic demagogues who can make money by doing the opposite. Doh!)

Canada Gets Mandatory Minimum Sentencing and More Prisons

tsquire1 says...

Although the bill is screw up, this video is too.

It explains the situation as if the prisoners themselves are going to get the money spent on prisons, not the prison capitalists. This is absurd. It's not like somebody locked up for a bullshit crime is getting rich here. Blame the 1%, the the people whose being is criminalized.
And on that note, the video never attempts to deconstruct the prison system in the first place and instead maintains a blame on the people in the cells, and not the system that forced them in there.

Rick Perry's hunting camp was named 'Niggerhead'

tsquire1 says...

Well hey. Listen, its private property and they can do what they want. Who's business is it what they do on their land they stole from the indigenous peoples?

But for real, a hunting ranch called 'N-head'.

Yep, fascist assholes.

Tommy Chong Confronts "War on Drugs" Profiteer

tsquire1 says...

What a fucking tool. Marijuana addiction? addiction?

Y'all know that SB1070 was written by Corrections Corporation of America, right? Y'all know why? Because undocumented people are seen as a source of profit ($200 per bed, per night). Same thing goes for the 'war on drugs'. Its a way for the capitalist scum to profit off our misery.

Its not a lack of police to fight drug cartels which is the cause of the violence. That analysis is hollow. You are leaving out the devastating consequences of NAFTA and imperialism on these countries.

Poverty and unemployment have only worsened as a result of subsidies going towards big agrobussiness instead of local farmers. This is what leads to crime. Its a reaction by the working class getting even more fucked. When you can't get any $ by growing corn and instead have the chance to make $ selling drugs, yeah, you do it.

It isn't a coincidence that the majority of immigrants come from countries that have had dictators and death squads with the support of the US. Guatamala, El Salvador, Mexico. Destroyed economies create migrants which are CHEAP LABOR. Add to this the criminalization of immigrants with AZ's SB1070 and GA's copycat HB87. The AZ bill was pretty much written by Corrections Corporation of America, a private prison corporation which gets $200 per bed a night.

Its all part of the imperative of profit, the inherent violence of capitalism, duh

"And then there's this from independent journalist Zafar Bangash:

"The CIA, as Cockburn and (Jeffrey) St Clair reveal, had been in this business right from the beginning. In fact, even before it came into existence, its predecessors, the OSS and the Office of Naval Intelligence, were involved with criminals. One such criminal was Lucky Luciano, the most notorious gangster and drug trafficker in America in the forties."

The CIA's involvement in drug trafficking closely dovetails America's adventures overseas - from Indo-China in the sixties to Afghanistan in the eighties....As Alfred McCoy states in his book: Politics of Heroin: CIA complicity in the Global Drug Trade, beginning with CIA raids from Burma into China in the early fifties, the agency found that 'ruthless drug lords made effective anti-communists." ("CIA peddles drugs while US Media act as cheerleaders", Zafar Bangash, Muslimedia, January 16-31, 1999)

And, this from author William Blum:

"ClA-supported Mujahedeen rebels ... engaged heavily in drug trafficking while fighting against the Soviet-supported government," writes historian William Blum. "The Agency's principal client was Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, one of the leading druglords and a leading heroin refiner. CIA-supplied trucks and mules, which had carried arms into Afghanistan, were used to transport opium to laboratories along the Afghan/Pakistan border. The output provided up to one half of the heroin used annually in the United States and three-quarters of that used in Western Europe....""
