Salvia is for winners! Or...

Quadrophonic says...

I had two kinds of experiences with this stuff. One is a incredible laughing hysteria (like seen here), where I didn't know why I was laughing after about 30 seconds into the experience. The second would be change of gravity, opening my mind and thoughts, having conversations with the universe, shortly after that realizing I was talking with my Television for 2 minutes... The worst thing was that it talked back, so I thought.

To adress the first few posts. It's not a hard drug, there is no case of salvia junkies or such, you can literally buy this stuff legal... since ever. But I wouldn't recommend anyone who isn't strong minded and in the right mental state at the time of consumption. Salvinorin A is the strongest hallucinogen we know of, although it lasts only 5 minutes. And if you try something like that always have somebody with you who is sober. You will thank him later, while he will hate you a little bit for the shit you did.

Landslide Takes Out A Train

Never said it's not real... but just a great coincidence... or the guy from X-Files, I know he's out there somewhere.

You do realize that sometimes things just happen when you are filming.
There is no magical "Event Fairy" that waits until no one is filming. I dobt he was set up, waiting for the slide. He was filming for some reason - one that I'm not going make up but sometimes things just get caught on film.

This looks pretty real to me.

Guns, Paranoia and The American Family

Quadrophonic says...

@artician Thanks, I never saw it that way.

If you think about it it's funny how the idea of freedom differs between europeans and U.S.americans. It's hard to describe, but I would say that here we're willing to give some of our "freedoms" up, for the sake of safety.

While Americans would rather live unsafe than giving up one of their freedoms.
You can also see the same difference when you think about European and US public health care legislation.

To summerize:
Europeans rather live in a golden cage, while Americans rather live in a cage of their own fear.

Everything Wrong With The Avengers In 3 Minutes Or Less

Quadrophonic says...

@Shepppard first of, I think it's a great action movie.
But there are many points in this video i would say are right. For example I didn't see the Cpt. America movie... and why should I? They didn't film a coherent story like Lord of The Rings or Star Wars where it's expected you see the movies in order.
I don't like to be forced to watch for example Cpt. America, just to know what the Tesseract is. It's standalone movie and should be understood without the other movies. In the case of the Avengers it should be enough to know who the Characters are.

In my opinion this is just bad movie making. If you have a film that is based on a book for example, it also shouldn't be necessary to read the book to understand the film. It's nice to have something in the movie only Fans fully understand. But it definitely shouldn't be the main object the story is driven by.
It would be like watching Lord of the Rings, without anyone explaining what the ring does. And after the movie you ask some fan and he says "Yeah you have to read the book to understand that."

P.S.: On a side note, Peter Jackson did not make a good job in explaining what the ring is/does/makes so important but at least he tried.

Guns, Paranoia and The American Family

I cant understand american pro-weapon people. I was in a sport shooting club (is that how you call it in english?) for a few years, I dont say that shooting weapons isn't fun and can be great sporting competition and exercise.
But as a european (or lets just say sane) person, the thought of guns allowed in the public or even a gun in my own home, scares the shit out of me.

Probably these weapon-nut-jobs are just a minority (are they? i dont know)... but still, your laws don't seem to change. Thats sad and will only ensure that there'll be more tragic events. And the media will focus on it once again and once again nothing will change.
I would write the first phew words of "America, the beautiful" here... but that would be too sarcastic.

Trinity escapes ! ( Matrix Opening scene)

Quadrophonic says...

The only movie I saw more than once in the cinema. And a few dozen times on DVD (hell yeah at first I owned a VHS of this movie... it's so damn old). But never, until today did I notice this ultra obvious Nokia product placement in this scene. Guess I'm getting old and frustrated

Landslide Takes Out A Train

Quadrophonic says...

I'm not one to call videos fake or so... but what in the hell was he filming? Why there? Why vertically?... so you could see exactly whats happening? Is that the guy from one of the X-Files who can't die and makes Photos from disasters?

Onboard - Unbelievable road rage attack

Quadrophonic says...

And speaking of the gun control thing, I totally agree with @Fletch and @dannym3141 (the nuclear warhead scenario is allways the one i try to bring up talking with gun loving people)

I had a friend who would have a steel pipe lying under his driver seat in case of such incidents (On a side note, sometimes he was the one raging, but mostly to himself). The thing I (for)told him was, that someday if he walks out of his car with the steel pipe to "calm down" (read intimidate) the raging guy of the other car, that guy may draw a knife. Which was exactly what happened to him one day. Luckily nobody of them snapped and did something stupid. They just screamed at each other for a little while until they realised that they didn't wanted to die that day.

My point being, in Germany we have a very strict gun law and I think thats a good thing. Look at the situation I just described, someone might say that they could have killed themselves as easily, as if they had guns, and at least with a gun you could make sure that you could defend yourself. But there is a general mistake in that logic. It takes far more "effort" and willingness to attack someone head on with a knife or a steel pipe. And the whole attacking process can be stopped at any given time (in the unusual event that the guys come to their senses). But on the other side, every freaking kid in the world would be able to kill anyone with a gun. It doesn't take much skill, practice or time, just a slight movement of the finger and pointing the end into the right direction.

Onboard - Unbelievable road rage attack

Quadrophonic says...

Although maybe a good idea at the time, there is something called necessary force and unnecessary force in self defense (If my english is correct here). It means that i could use a gun to defend myself against someone who attacks me with a knife, it's totally legal to shoot the other guy in self defense (even if shoot him in the head). But if the guy already lays on the ground and I shoot him again, in the leg just to go sure, it would be unnecessary.
So driving head on into the guy, while he tries to jump on your windshield, smashing him down (killing him in the process), would be alright with the law, you're the hero of the day! But going into reverse and make sure the threat is over (even if you only run over his legs)... chances at court wouldn't be so good, just saying.

Man of Steel - Trailer 2

Quadrophonic says...

I would love to see that. I think most writers/directors had no clue what the philosophical/ethical questions are that a character with the power of superman has to confront. It's basically not the bad guy/ Kryptonite / magic which could destroy superman, that makes superman interesting. What the hell, NO superhero movie should be interesting because of the part where the hero could get hurt. In the end there is one thing we all know when we go to a superhero movie, the hero survives in the end, maybe we're cheering for the bad guy or hope the world will get what it deserves but deep down we know that the hero will find a way to stop the crisis. It's just the way these movies work. On the other hand what I find interesting, is to see what the hero has to sacrifice in order to save the world. Sure Superman will still be super tomorrow, but what about the rest of the world?

Did you see Watchmen? Great movie (ok against what i said earlier, in the end one of the heroes dies) but besides that, it shows brilliantly how to work with a unstoppable superhuman being and how to create a crisis that doesn't need something like Kryptonite/Magic to work as a movie. You don't even know/see the bad guy until the last quarter of the movie. And one of the Heroes (Dr. Manhatten) is literally unstoppable, I mean he can change reality with his will as far as I know. But even he is of no help at all in the given circumstances. You can say the biggest enemy of Dr. Manhatten is himself, I would also say this applies to superman. And I think that is what makes it great.

On the other side you can make a movie like "The Avengers" which is great as a action movie but I don't think it's a good superhero movie. I mean when i watched this movie, all i did was waiting for the grand finale. The final super fight where the avengers fight together. And what was it? Just a group of super dudes/dudesses killing one exchangeable alien thingy after another... wow great tension you achieved there... I mean in the end what is the great crisis they fight? That their own Bosses try to nuke them, because everything else was under control at that moment.

It does make great action material, but what I want to see (and sadly that doesn't seem what "the people" want to see) is a superhero movie (especially speaking of superman) where the hero has to fight more than just interchangeable aliens in a big CGI fuckfest.

While I personally would love to see a fictional world political conflict be tackled by a superman, it isn't *the* Superman story people would expect.
