Testing Babies for Moral Choices

Quadrophonic says...

Speaking of how hardwired we humans come into existence, I once read something about a study that they did with newborn babies. Like just some days old newborns. They put these two items above these kids, so that they could look at them while they lie in their beds and tracked the babies eye movements. The two items where a little car, made of metal and a nice round sun (like a stuffed animal). The interesting thing they found out was that the majority of the male babies looked way more often and longer at the car, whilst the majority of the female babies looked at the sun.
It's quite impressive to see how predestined we are.... some people are just born car mechanics.

The "Mourning After" Pill-supplied by your friendly rapist!

Quadrophonic says...

I find it hilarious too.

I think it makes another important sarcastic point aside the whole "legitimate rape" and "raped women don't get pregnant" comments from Akin. Apparently, when old white men have the "credentials" to talk about the whole issue, why not let the rapists tell their view too... why not ask farmers or the tech industry... what you say that women issues should be something WOMEN should be talking about?

TYT: Texas GOP tries to stop you from critical thinking

Quadrophonic says...

Sadly it isn't.

Since I'm not from the USA I try not to discuss the politics from your country. I think I don't know the full context and how the American citizen feels as much as I don't think you would know what European politics "feels" like... But when you see stuff like this, I ask myself, how could anybody, I mean ANYBODY tolerate such policies.
Like Cenk says "The republican party is a national embarrassment."
I would fix that to "The republican party is an international embarrassment."

Good luck next election...

No matter where you are Zorro saves the day!

Yes if the girl screams like crazy and he is pointing a gun around the room i could understand. But if it happened like in the video, i would instantly think it's some kind of flashmob/prank. It's not like a real killer would stand up in front of the crowd and declare "I am going to murder you all!" and start murdering people (although I don't know any mass murderers, so maybe they do it like that). And I don't think americans instantly take out their guns (and of course every american has one at hand all the time) when faced with unknown situations. I guess the reactions of the students in that video are pretty much the same you'd see in every other university.

If the only information you get about the US is from sensationalist media and Hollywood entertainment, then you basically have no idea what life is like over here. Consider your sources. Having said that, there are few places in the world where you can run into a crowded room with a sword, steal a purse, make a woman scream, and not make people nervous.

Quadrophonic says...

I know what you mean, although I honestly think it's a good idea to do stuff like this. It may sound a little over the top, but i would be happy to die in a killing spree, rather than live in a world where I can't even make a little joke or prank without fear of being shot by "accident". What kind of world would it be, where our fears control us to a point that doesn't allow us to be more than working and learning machines?

Not that i know too much about life on a US campus but isn't it an incredibly stupid idea to crash into a room full of students, wearing a mask and wielding something that just has to be mistaken as a weapon? My impression from press is that because of all the killing sprees in US schools and universities and so on several institutions allow their students to wear guns? or at least the professors? And even if this this is a false picture i'm being painted by sensational press, isn't it still at least a cruel thing to do? Aren't people nervous about crazy folks shooting around? You can clearly see the professor twitching nervously. Maybe i'm seeing things too serious but in my perception there's enough of gun related violence in the US education system that would make joking around with such stuff a really bad idea.

Total Recall (2012) - full trailer

Quadrophonic says...

Another sequel? Hollywood is really getting lazy.
If you look at the box office of the top 15 movies in 2011, there is only one film that isn't either a sequel or an adaption of a previous movie.

I'm sick to see the same old stories again and again, just because some director thought "Hey I watched some pretty good movies in the eighties while i was high, but they all would have been a lot better with more flying cars and an infinite amount of explosions in the background."
