removing acute subdural hematoma

A graphic video on open brain surgery to remove an acute subdural hematoma, a deadly blotting of the blood in the brain. NSFW, and NSF the squeamish.

I almost force myself to look at things like this because I want to wrap my mind around the fact that I'm nothing more than a lump of tissue. Don't get me wrong, I understand << it. But, the difficulty I have is mostly in the acceptance of the evidence as a form of self realization.
I suppose, another way of putting it would be, I have a hard time deciding if these sorts of things about brains and brain functions make me feel more or less human.

What's interesting is most subdural hematomas are venous bleeds (low pressure). This clearly had arterial bleeding, which is more consistent with epidural hematomas.

Nothing in particular pointed to the arterial bleed as the source though. Since they just cut the dudes head open, it could have been collateral damage.

I'm surprised they don't have better imaging techniques to better localize the tear. Seems like they had to pretty much crack open the whole nut and look for the leak visually. Perhaps that part was necessary to remove the clot though.

Any brain surgeons around? Anyone?

When that hematoma was sliding out of the cranium, I would have got my face down by the edge of the table and gobbled it straight down.

You're a fine young cannibal.
