Zero Punctuation: Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows

This week Zero Punctuation reviews Spiderman's latest web swinging adventure, Spiderman: Web of Shadows.

Loved the-web swinging in spider-man 2... like yahtzee, I generally ignored the plot and the cries for help just to enjoy swinging around Manhattan for hours. I was hoping they would take that base and make a really good game with it, but unfortunately the ultimate spider-man game that followed ripped most of the fun parts of swinging out. I haven't gotten around to this iteration yet.

I think you're meant to take it in character, as in, that's how the dark spiderman would think of it. He doesn't strike me as bigoted. Bitchy, spoiled, funny and impatient, sure, but not ignorant.

I think I said this somewhere else but I really think the word faggot should be detached from being applied to gays, I met alot of people I inadvertently call faggots not because they are homosexual but because it was the perfect description for them and whiny didn't have the same sting.

You know what I mean. No need to get our panties/boxers in a twist. Because I met gays and they don't act like faggots.

As pleasant(?) as that sounds. I think it is too idealistic to ever actually happen. If that were the case, nigger, wop, spic, honky and more could all go back to more neutral connotations as well.

Currently friends and I are working hard to form the habit of saying something that is not influenced by past prejudices. 'Mao pien' which means 'bad film' in Chinese, commonly used to describe movies that are pornographic/obscene/awful is currently at the top of the list

Saying fagot to infer someone is whiny or did something 'bitch like' or what have you, sounds to me as if it is playing off of the stereotype that some homosexuals are more effeminate, so i do not really get that as the perfect description.

I didn't like the "Beating up faggots" line either.
If he had said "beating up niggers" or something like that.... I don't think anyone would be defending him, so I don't know why anyone would be defending "beating up faggots."

I suppose it's possible he thought the game was portraying Spider-man as anti-gay though, and that Yahtzee was criticizing the game for this, not supporting it.

You admit its a stereotype and this what I believe as well. I don't think this is a trait everyone homosexual person shares no matter how much Will and Grace would like us to believe.

I mean no one gets upset at being called white trash do they. By defending the term faggot or gay, you are basically creating the very thing you fight against. I mean I think homosexuals are simply people who prefer other venues of sexual activity nothing more, no more weird then people into s&m or latex pron.

Calling someone a "faggot" is to insult them by saying they are gay (whether they are or not). This means it's understood that gays are bad. Not cool. Bad word. No vote.

"White trash" is also an insult, and yes, people do resent being called white trash.
