budzossays...Running Win7 on an OCZ Vertex3 SSD here. I'm already at the point where POST takes longer than boot. My POST does take a lot longer than shown in the video. It takes my win 7 system about 45 seconds to do a soft shutdown and reboot, which is quite acceptable to me. I've never actually timed a cold boot, but shutting down Windows takes longer than starting it for sure.
I sort of fell/got time-pressured into the purchase of a $600 system drive. It's really not much use to have a single drive this fast at this size, except for boot times and program loading times.
Deanosays...And then Windows 7 is just lying underneath. Still, fast boot, I'll take that!
Deanosays...Immediately after watching this I'm offered "best pole dance move ever"
VoodooVsays...Isn't this more of an advertisement for SSD drives than Windows 8?
Seems kinda misleading to me. enthusiasts already know how wicked fast SSD drives are, but joe blow average may not be aware of SSDs
Hopefully I'll be getting my first SSD drive system before the holidays
Trancecoachsays...My Windows 7 on my Dell 1564 takes years.
literally. years.
siftbotsays...Tags for this video have been changed from 'windows 8, boot, time, hybrid, shutdown' to 'windows 8, boot time, hybrid, shutdown, hibernation' - edited by xxovercastxx
xxovercastxxsays...The reason it's so fast is it's not a true cold boot. They've implemented a hybrid hibernation mode.

gwiz665says...I have an ssd boot drive with windows 7, and don't believe that hype. It's faster, but not booting in seconds at all. I think mine goes from zero to ready in 30-40 seconds, but like 20 of those are post bios stuff though.

moodoniasays...I installed Windows 98 on a Athlon 64 with IDE hard disk based system for the laugh(!?) and it booted to desktop in 6 seconds, wont encourage me to adopt Win98 though...
teebeenzsays...Whats funny is they didnt even boot it to the desktop, they just booted to metro.
deathcowsays...i'll stick with windows 7 for the next 3 yrs...
dagsays...Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)
Just wait until it comes bundled with "Norton 720". Then see how long it takes.
Fantomassays...I always thought long boot times were down to old CMOS tech still being used from the DOS ages. But I'm no tech head so meh.
articiansays...I still run WinXP 64-bit. Except for initial boot (which isn't really slow anyway, and I never power off in the first place) it's faster than Win7 overall.
notarobotsays...I installed Win XP on my mac for when I need to dual boot. Runs like a dream.
rychansays...Windows 7 at home on my SSD already boots ridiculously fast. Whether it takes 5 seconds or 10 seconds isn't such a big concern.
Windows 7 at work loading components over the network takes maybe 3 minutes to load.
Pevs86says...I never turn my PC off. Too many games to play, too much porn to download.
Vexussays...Booted does not equal usable.... how often do you get it to boot, and you can't click anything for like 45 seconds?

Prefab systems might be bleh, but all laptops are prefab, and you really can't custom build one for an affordable price. Not yet anyway.
Darkhandsays...It's cool that it can be done but my computer takes like 30 seconds to boot now.
I mean, I turn my computer on when I get home use it and then when I go to bed turn it off. This isn't exactly what I would have at the forefront of my marketing. It's like saying "Toilet flushes 50% Faster!", it's cool but just not practical.
Unless you have some sort of uncontrollable spurting bowel movements for short periods of time and need to be able to flush quickly or something
ponceleonsays...It's cool and all, but isn't also a factor of hardware and what is in the "startup?" I feel like my pc booted hella fast when I first got it, but as you use it and add applications (skype, steam, etc) that start up automatically, the machine isn't really usable for a bit longer than it was when you first got it...
