heathensays..."Don't let notation get in the way of your understanding" - beautiful!
messengersays...Upvoted even though the title got it wrong. Visual multiplication is just normal multiplication done visually. I liked it best when she showed what multiplication really is at the end with the single area of intersecting rows and columns. A friend of mine didn't know that a number squared was called "squared" because it represents the area of a square with sides of that length. How easily we lose sight of the forest for the trees.
SveNitoRsays...I'm gonna save this and show to a client of mine who has huge problems with multiplication. Guess I will have to translate it first though, since her English is pretty bad as well...
brycewi19says...Wow, visual multiplication requires a lot more paper than traditional means.
rottenseedsays...I was amazed when she extrapolated the "standard" multiplication into the multiplication of polynomials. I had never thought of that before...color me dumbfounded (it's kind of like periwinkle)

What does your calculator say about 48÷2(9+3) ?

Xaxsays...Ummm... so the video ended before I thought it would.
mentalitysays...She could've used that last bit of advice for the tau = 2pi nonsense.
Paybacksays...So what the fuck is 7 dolphin'd by 12? Is it going to be in her next video? This New Math shit is hard.

What does your calculator say about 48÷2(9+3) ?
messengersays...Not necessarily. The statement is ambiguous, which is to say, malformed. This is why, as she pointed out, nobody uses the "÷" symbol.
48
-- (9+3) = 288
2
but
48
------ = 2
2(9+3)

What does your calculator say about 48÷2(9+3) ?
MarineGunrocksays...OoO. (edit: plus sign isn't showing up)
48÷2(9+3) or
48/2 = 24
9+3=12
24x12=288
