Thunderf00t BUSTS the Hyperloop concept

I thought the Hyperloop was neat idea, but this video convinced me a safe version will never be built. He also made a followup video for those who argued they were only proposing a *partial* vacuum: https://youtu.be/DDwe2M-LDZQ

Basically, a Hyperloop tube is under the same pressure as a tube of sea-level air, 10m underwater. The difference from inside to outside is 1 atmosphere in both cases.

This is close to the underwater tunnel at the Georgia aquarium, and that's made out of plastic...

Not sure why he thinks this is so bizarre.

Lol. What the hell? Some guy who doesn't fully understand the Hyperloop tech makes a video 'debunking' it? It's just weird. I guess it makes money for him, though.

Underwater tunnels dont need a complex solution sitting behind them to maintain that pressure.
Underwater tunnels arent open to the air, where retards can shoot at them.
Water doesnt act like air in a decompression event like what thunderf00t is talking about....it doesnt travel at the speed of sound to fill the void..

It's not IN a vacuum. the pressure is just very low, like a high-altitude jet airliner. The skis the pod runs on aren't even electromagnetic, they use micro jets of compressed air, like an air-hockey table.

As for Thunderfoot, I get he likes debunking things like those retarded snake-oil "smart pavement" people. However, saying Musk is one of them is ignoring what Elon's already accomplished. I can GUARANTEE Elon Musk has dumped more money than Thunderfoot will make in his lifetime in engineers and pure scientists just to see if it was FEASIBLE, let alone possible.

Using a trubine in a vacuum doesnt make any sense. I thought it was magnetically driven like the bullet train.

Your mom is open to the air. Few retards shoot AT her...

Not building something because someone can destroy it means constructing any building over 12-15 stories since 9/11 is ill-advised, yet people are still doing it...

How do you know his mom is open to the air? My mom is in a plastic container waiting for us to scatter her remains in a sentimental location. Even if she was alive she would be one average target amongst 400 million. The WTC was one of a half dozen PRIME targets in the US on 9/11. The Hyperloop, on completion would become THE PRIME target in the US, not just for ISIS or Al Quaeda but for every nutjob who wanted to attract attention to himself. Hell, you'd probaly have rednecks out hunting taking potshots at it like it was a stop sign.

That being said, I'm still in favor of doing the research because even if Hyperloop never materializes, the research will inevitably have positive spinoffs. We should always dream big.

Moving this video to spawnflagger's personal queue. It failed to receive enough votes to get sifted up to the front page within 2 days.

Sending this video to Beggar's Canyon to plea for a little attention - beg requested by original submitter spawnflagger.

I thought the same thing, because that's everything I had heard prior - "it's not a vacuum". But both the white paper, and the wikipedia article on it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperloop ) both mention 1 millibar of pressure, and that was the number that he was debunking with the math in the video (and the 2nd one I linked in the description)

of course, it's possible that the Hyperloop folks changed that pressure target number somewhere between then and now, and it's running in much less of a vacuum, which would be less efficient, but way safer (if so, they should update the public).

Cheers for the talking down-to at a personal level mate, really top notch community member.

A single bullet aimed at a skyscraper wont bring it and all its inhabitants into a catastrophic implosion event.

Conflating the two is just a touch silly, no?

Ok, so you don't have a sense of humour. Noted.

I am no engineer, but could they install some kind of latch doors system that can isolate a section if there is a pressure problem ? Of course the trains in the area would be stopped whenever these latches are used... Every 5km or such.
