With a population of over 18 million people, Mumbai is one of the world’s largest megalopolises. To put it mildly, the city can be unpredictable. But amid the chaos, Mumbai has one thing that is nearly 100 percent reliable: your lunch delivery. The dabbawalas of Mumbai are an institution. Dabbawalas deliver homemade lunches to workers across Mumbai—nearly 200,000 of them per day. Crisscrossing side streets on bikes, balancing trays that weight almost 150 pounds on their heads, this group of 5,000 men helps define the city. But it’s not just the staggering quantity or exhaustive work that sets these guys apart; their 99.9% delivery accuracy and incredible efficiency is the envy of delivery services the world over. Anything for a warm meal, amiright?

Fairbssays...impressive; no easy access to microwaves for people who use this service?
Esoogsays...Picking up meals from homes, delivering them to people at work, then taking the lunch box back to their home...
Seems like an incredible waste of resources.
Sagemindsays...I don't understand this AT ALL.
Why would a person use this service, why wouldn't you just carry your own lunch to work?? I do it every day - why would I hire someone else to do it????
bobknight33says...Why not just take your lunch to work with you.
hamsteralliancesays...I think the answer is that the lunch isn't made yet. They're not making their own lunch and then handing it to someone. The dudes in the video receiving lunches are already at work while their wives are at home making their lunches.
Paybacksays...That's communism!
Why not just take your lunch to work with you.
