Zonbiesays...*quality (as long as they don't go all dumb with extensive CG)
siftbotsays...Boosting this quality contribution up in the Hot Listing - declared quality by Zonbie.
JiggaJonsonsays...I'll second that. CG wouldn't scare Kirt Russell, this unknown heroine though.. i dont know...
EvilDeathBeesays...Totally and utterly unnecessary!
It looks more like a remake under the premise of a prequel
luxury_piesays...Why does every Trailer include the Battlefield 3 / Inception noise?
campionidelmondosays...The Thing was great and from the looks of the trailer I can just rewatch the original and have a better experience.
siftbotsays...The thumbnail image for this video has been updated - thumbnail added by Hybrid.
Encumberancesays...Why are they speaking english in a Norwegian camp. I agree with EvilDeathBee it looks like a half ass remake.
ponceleonsays...Upvoting just so we can continue to discuss just how bad this is on so many levels.
1. CG
2. The Norwegians are suddenly not so norweegie
3. Had to add a woman
4. McReady > all the people in this cast
5. CG
All that said, I do have one devil's advocate moment: the Thing itself was a remake, so maybe I'll give this flick a chance. There were a few things that made me kind of interesting: the look of the camp was pretty consistent, as was the block form which they got the thing... I'll give it a whirl, but I'm going in with low expectations.
JiggaJonsonsays...The thing I love about old special effects/makeup is that for all the hangups they probably had in development, it always ALWAYS looked like something you could actually reach out and touch. By contrast, the cartoon-land CG bullshit they pour on nowadays continues to ruin one film after another for me.
Non-CG:
GAH IT'S COMING RIGHT FOR US!!!
CG:
Wait, am I watching Toy Story or Star Wars? I forgot.
antsays...*commercial
siftbotsays...Adding video to channels (Commercial) - requested by ant.
ponceleonsays...I guess the one thing I'm fearing is that they will just do fan-service. Like, they will do the whole blood-jumps to escape fire and head grows legs and walks away just so idiots will be like LOL THAT HAPPENED IN THE OTHER MOVIE TOO!!!OMG
If they can resist the urg to re-hash stuff from the first film I will be impressed, but I doubt it since the trailer already shows they are rehashing a lot of stuff from the dialog.
acidSpinesays...I think another factor in predicting this films' shittiness is the tendancy of action/horror films nowadays to shoot for the 13-15 y/o market whereas all the great classics IMHO are 18+
Duckman33says...I was hoping for a sequel because they left that possibility wide open at the end of the John Carpenter's version. 'The Thing' (John's version) is still my all time favorite horror flick.

True The Thing was a remake of The Thing from Another World. The only difference here is that it was a remake. This is supposed to be a prequel and it looks like the same dam movie. They even try to make it bigger and better. The ship they find is massive and way down in a ice cave. The 82 movie it was big and near the surface with the body found near it.
oohlalasassoonsays...This probably got greenlighted accidentally by the studio exec that grants all the go-aheads for superhero movies. Understandable mix-up.
gwiz665says...I could see this being good, if they told their own story. If they don't re-hash gimmicks from the old movie and if it works in its own right. It's body-horror goodness.

.. and also both 'The Thing' and 'Thing from another world' are both based on on sci-fi Novella titled "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell.
I'll give this prequel a chance, but i'm concerned as others are, about the use of CG.
