3:55 p.m.
The landing is expected at 3:55 p.m. EST (2055 GMT). At the time of Perseverance's landing attempt, Mars will be about 127 million miles (205 million kilometers) from Earth, NASA said in a mission description.8 hours ago
SUCCESS!
Congratulations NASA JPL!
Strong signal from the lander.
eric3579says...WOOT WOOT! That was so exciting. Brings a tear to my eyes.
noimssays...TOUCHDOWN! It's landed, alive, and sending pictures!
SFOGuysays...Such a happy nerd day today. Was in a small meeting outside and had this marked in my calendar--after 3.5 hours of talking, suddenly stood up and said we all had to go to a wide screen; masked up and got it up and running 6 minutes before. So many happy nerdy people! So exciting!
vilsays...What struck me in the landing commentary was this tendency to present this like some dumb exotic adventure with lots of teambuilding slogans (also "insane" engineering?). I guess it has to be like that for reasons but it is icky.
This is just engineering on a field trip. We have been there before, we are trying to make it safe to go there again. Things are expected to work.
A lot of white bald men at the monitors but the presentation is diverse :-) NASA is doing its best.
