Paybacksays...Most cars automatically activate the A/C when you select defrost so pressing the A/C button doesn't usually do anything.
newtboysays...Most newer cars, yes. Most built before computers were the norm in cars, not so much.
Then there are cars like mine...a 46 year old Bronco with no AC button to press, so my best defroster is open windows and a dry rag/shamwow. ;-)

bitterbugsays...Also, if your cars starts to overheat while you're driving and you need to keep going to get to service/safety, roll down your windows and turn the heat on full blast - even in the summer.
The heater pulls heat off the engine and gives you extra time before you go critical.
