Gallowflaksays...Twice in one day. That's how much of a bitch I am! Wooooo!

siftbotsays...Self promoting this video and sending it back into the queue for one more try; last queued Saturday, December 11th, 2010 5:41pm PST - promote requested by original submitter Gallowflak.
shagen454says...I really thought Bethesda would choke on the Fallout series... it was a pleasant surprise when Fallout 3 turned out to be a gem. Let's hope Elder Scrolls V isn't just a technologically good looking hiking simulator.

Heh, I still haven't resumed IV.
siftbotsays...Adding video to channels (Animation, Commercial) - requested by ant.
shuacsays...Is the gamebryo engine still in the mix? That's the big question.
HugeJerksays...It's been rumored that Elder Scrolls 5 is using a new engine and it will be the first game released using that engine. However, I've also heard that the engine was mostly complete before the purchase of id, so it may be the only game to use the engine since going forward they would likely use the id Tech 5 as a base for future projects.>> ^shuac:

Yes. There were a few articles some weeks ago about how they were using the same engine as Oblivion/Fallout, but heavily modified. This is the first TES game they've done which isn't on a brand new engine.
It's suspect, but I trust that they can pull it off. It's just that a lot of the inadequaces of Oblivion and Fallout 3 were attributable to the engine.
disregard that, I suck clocks
Todd Howard had spoken about how Bethesda's next project would be using the same engine, but Todd Howard is a madman.
Ralghasays...Dragonball?! Not sure that really fits into the Elder Scrolls universe.
Draxsays...Has anyone else noticed all the main Elder Scroll games have been released in alphabetical order?
deathcowsays...I heard they are retro-releasing this all the way back to the GameBoy and the 3DO platform.
Fantomassays...Skyrim is only half the land mass of Cyrodiil, hopefully we get to explore Hammerfell and maybe High Rock also.

A little bit of me dies inside every time someone says fallout 3 was a gem. It NEEDS to be a qualified statement - it was a good game, it wasn't a good Fallout game. People don't even know how amazing that game SHOULD have been. (that's why original fallout fans were so disappointed btw)
Back to the video - didn't have much content really, did it?

Thanks for posting, you saved me the trouble.
shuacsays...Hmm, you're right.
Arena
Daggerfall
Morrowind
Oblivion
Skyrim
If I thought the makers of these games were clever enough to utilize acrostics, I'd say the term 'Admos' may be of significance. After all, they used an acrostic as a clue in one of the quests in Oblivion. So maybe there's something to this.

Nope

Zyrxilsays...The last time I was excited about an Elder Scrolls game was before I played Oblivion. Bethesda's way too full of themselves to actually improve in this iteration, especially if they're using the same engine.
Abel_Priscsays...Oh wow. New Elder Scrolls AND Mass Effect dated around the same time? Oh my... I'll say goodbye to my loved ones, and reassure them that I'll resurface some day...

Except for Morrowind, which was done with Gamebryo and had already been used in Dark Age of Camelot the year before.
Oh, and Oblivion, which was also Gamebryo and had already been used in DAoC, Morrowind, Pirates, and Civ4.

It's to be expected. The trend has been for significantly smaller, but more detailed land-masses with each passing game. I think the only exception to this was Daggerfall had a gameworld of some 480,000 square kilometers.

That's the embed from elderscrolls.com, which is probably the best quality you'll find.
shagen454says...Oh come on you guys, Fallout 3 was far better than you thought it was going to be and you know it. I was just as cynical as you guys are (and I was an original Fallout fan - meaning when each title came out I directly to my local EB and bought each one in succession, years apart and I knew no one that ever heard of the game series back then).
Fallout 3 is a good Bethesda game - that's what we're talking about here - Bethesda, not the merits of what makes a real Fallout game. With Fallout 3 they convinced me that they could make a good game and not totally screw up everything. And when I look back on Fallout 3; yes it is a gem of a game.
sineralsays...I hope it's better than Oblivion.
My first elder scrolls game was Morrowind. After playing that, Oblivion had a very strong console game feel to it. Morrowind felt bigger, more open, and more alive and real.
HugeJerksays...I worked on the original Fallout. I thought Fallout 3 did a really good job of bringing in the atmosphere that had been established in Fallout 1 and 2. It didn't do as good of a job in making the stats/skills matter and at giving you a wide array of options with how to tackle the storyline.
I'm in total agreement with you that Fallout 3 is a good game. New Vegas improved the translation, despite the (current, but hopefully fixed soon) errors in the game due to the options alloted to the player and making skill points matter more.
*actually, having a good amount of bugs is something Fallout was known for.>> ^shagen454:

That's really odd. I always felt like Fallout 3 did a terrible job at doing justice to the atmosphere of the first two games. I love F3, mind you, it's just that Bethesda don't seem to be able to develop a "dark" atmosphere without really pounding it down. The voice acting and dialogue were some of the biggest hitches for me... Christ, everyone's so goddamned clean and normal.
The music was another big deal. Mark Morgan's soundtrack in F1 did such an excellent job at conveying a desolate, grim, hopeless environment. It was perfect for the game, and F1/F2 are still up there in my top 10. So is Morrowind, though. Maybe I'm just a nostalgic faggot.
Draxsays...The music in Fallout 3 was decent ambiant for the game.. it just didn't seem to play any homage to the original music as far as I could tell. I personaly see that as a slight negative towards the music.. but if you take that critique out, it wasn't bad on it's own. The radio station thing kinda made up for it too, imo (especially modded).
HugeJerksays...The tone of the games were different, even from 1 to 2 the tone changed quite a bit, but the atmosphere of the post-nuclear world with a 50's sensibility remained.

When Bethesda said they'd be working on Fallout I thought it was a horrible idea. They're not good with plot and they're not all that great at game mechanics. What Bethesda could do was essentially create a good-looking, detailed world. They did a good job at the Fallout atmosphere, but did better than I ever expected at gameplay. Fallout 3 is fun to play.
For a long time before Fallout 3 came out I always explained that what made Fallout really tick was something that none of you have even mentioned. It was it's wit, it's sarcasm; black humor with pop culture references gone awry. To this day, to my knowledge Fallout 2 is the only game to have ever even touched on the topic of Noam Chomsky. The writers for the original Fallout series was where it was at - they were the one's that made Fallout a more subversive sort of experience that we'll never get again. If you want to talk about Fallout and sum it up in it's atmosphere & music - then you're just barking up a tiny sect of it's tree.
ForgedRealitysays...*yawn*
CGI speaks volumes of nothing.
We want gameplay.
jubuttibsays...Ultimately the main thing I didn't like in Oblivion were the dungeons and ruins (pretty much everything could be changed with mods to my liking). Many people say that they were procedurally generated and that's why they suck (like in Daggerfall), but unfortunately they were lazily hand built with just a few pieces. Having played Minecraft I know that proper procedurally built dungeons would have been better. The dungeons are my main concern for the new game. I trust that Bethesda and the modding community combined can take care of the rest.
Still, until they release a game with realistic scale and including every territory mentioned in the series (gradual upgrades, naturally) it's all just a waste of time really. The Imperial Bridge should be 14 miles long at the bare minimum, and should take an appropriate amount of time to cross. That's why quick travel and horses exist.
kceaton1says...Why hasn't everyone just given up and moved on to the Crytek engine. Physics with magic... Forests would tremble at my approach; and that's odd for trees.

Thanks, dude.
JAPRsays...No worries. This could be an awesome game.
sineralsays...My top 5 favorite games, in no particular order:
Portal
Final Fantasy 3
System Shock 2
Thief 2
Morrowind
Maybe, I'd have to think about it more actually. But that's a pretty damn good list anyways. All of those games except for Portal gave me a strong feeling of being immersed in an actual alternate world. Playing them felt less like playing a game and more like traveling to some far away land.
Gallowflaksays...Hmm...
Morrowind
Deus Ex
Final Fantasy IX
Mass Effect 2
Half-Life
Fallout 1
Neverwinter Nights
Battlefield 1942
Medieval 2 - Total War
Tekken 3-6
Super Meat Boy
STALKER
Perfect Dark
Warcraft 3
Freelancer
Shit, I should just stop. It could go on forever.
