antimattersays...achievements like those are lame. the push-the-object gameplay is nothing new and the tf concept is getting too old without increasigng the novelty. tfc came out like 11 years ago and it plays like the same shit except slower. Plus i'm mad because of all the old previews released over the years before they went w/ the pixar cartoon look, they looked fun.

You're lame. Douche.
Sarzysays...Zing!
legacy0100says...More and more this game reminds me of RTCW: Enemy Territory, which happens to be my favorite game of all time.
Plus, my current favorite class is the medic. The joy of listening to the responses you get when you kill a soldier with a needler is euphoric
I'm beginning to think that Team Fortress 2 and I were meant.... TO BE!
moodoniasays...I have about 40 hours play in TF2 and havent earned a single achievment. Is this normal or am I just crap?
edit
maybe dont answer that....
BicycleRepairMansays...Awesomesauce!
MarineGunrocksays...Achivements are just fuckin' crap. I work 50 hours a week and don't feel like sitting down for 6 hours straight trying to get that bullshit. Besides that, for some reason, no matter how much I play, my progress never gets recorded - like I get 80 points on a server, and yet my stats still only say 19.

Maybe enabling all weapons will be a custom server option?
Some of the achievements you need to get are insane - like healing 10 million pts. It's not something you'd be able to get in 6 hrs anyways... only the most hardcore ppl will have the ubersaw.
Bigboomersays...I hate it, because they lied.
They abandoned TF2 A LONG time ago. When BF2 was released, the concept of Tf2 basically died. So they sat on it for years, without doing a thing.
After source came out, the constant slandering of TF2 / Dnf (The games that never were), they wipped up a rehash of the olf TFC (something Tf2 was NOT suppose to be) and threw it out the door as quick as they could to meet up with Portal / Orange box.
Now they're in a hole. Nobody plays Tf2 anymore, it's dying quickly. So they're trying to improve the game, by actually attempting to develop it. Too little, too late.
You had 7 years to work on it, and all you released was a good mod. Now your modding your mod.
guessandchecksays...wow, lots of whiners. personally i think the game's great, and these patches will help a few of the problems that are there in a creative way. medic's got to be the most underplayed class, so i'm all for these advancements.
10898says...I love TF2, but the upcoming changes make me cringe. The idea of making these new weapons unlockable will only increase the amount of point/achievement whoring. This will move the emphasis farther from pure-fun and turn it into something resembling a skillzocracy.
MarineGunrocksays...Don't get me wrong, I love the game, and everything about it. I just hate the whole "achievements" thing.
Personally, I play as the medic the most. It's a great class and is vital to the team's success. But Hominid^ made a very good point with those last two sentences.
RedSkysays...Achievements work best when they're virtually or entirely cosmetic but you do have to admit that unlockable content is a great way to add play-time and force players to try out different gameplay facets, which they may have otherwise dismissed all too quickly.
As for gritty realism over cartoony graphics, no thanks. I'm thoroughly sick of CoD4 but end up playing it because everyone else does. Realism in FPSs particularly, is a synonym for camp whoring. Nothing says squat and wait more than overly dense foliage, non-contrasting colour schemes and players taking 'real' damage. Game designers, if I wanted to play Where's Waldo I wouldn't be playing a videogame would I?
Frankly realism along with overt reward systems are just an allure for the console crowd, which developers have serendipitously realised they should be catering for. The problem is it ends up taking a backstage to gameplay and is further accentuated by gimmicky gratuitous rewards. Look, if my score of 60 for a CoD4 map is composed of 20 gun kills, 15 grenade kills, 15 air strike kills and 10 helicopter kills, there is something wrong.
BrknPhoenixsays...Wow, people saying a game that's practically overloaded with people day in day out all the time is dying, that the concept of achievements suck simply because they exist, and that the game concept of unlocking things, probably as old as a lot of the whiners are, sucks and it's horrible because of it. This thread has it all. These are all clearly valid concerns as each and every one of you has a man in a black mask standing behind you with a glock pressed against the back of your head telling you that if you don't play TF2, first he'll kill you, but it won't stop there oh no, he's going to do after your family, and even your dog, your friends, and all of your teachers in elementary school and then he's going to use some sort of horrible HORRIBLE death ray to blow up the sun and change the tides, the climate will falter and animals and plants will die and in years the face of the planet will have changed, humanity struggling, clinging for its final breath because YOU WOULDN'T PLAY TF2 YOU BASTARD!
Oh, that's not the case? Wait, that would mean you're just complaining about Valve adding new features to increase replay value. No, that wouldn't make sense at all... There's gotta be a guy with a gun. Play on man, and keep that guy and his moon-beam away from the rest of us. Godspeed.
mas8705says...Why are so many people complaining about achievements? I'll have you know I have a score over 50k on xbox live and I am respected by anyone I play with or against...
As far as I see, TF2 was already a great game on the orange box, and I hope we get to see more updates soon on the 360 if not PC for sure... The Medic's new tools look fun and earning the achievements will show that you are commited to being the best... that and I really hope that they do the same thing with the other eight classes... (imagines engineer with lasers, double minigun heavy, demoman with sticks, and improved Spy)
