TDS: Democratic Super Majority

The Democratic supermajority fails to pass health care reform, but succeeds in funding abstinence-only education.

A few years back there was someone critiquing the Democrat party by saying they just didn't have any balls. I'm really starting to agree.

Democrats, you have a fucking SUPER MAJORITY, grow some balls, tell the republicans to go jump off a cliff, and create a damned universal national healthcare program. Quit being little bitches, and do what should have been done 60 years ago, when the rest of the world started to grow the hell up.

Christ, it's like they've got the girl in the room, the undies are down, and she's said "Any ride in the park!!!", and suddenly the Dem's decide they need to go home to do their Saturday night laundry or something...

Worst case of performance anxiety ever, or is the entire US political system picked from the village idiot pool? You decide!

I wouldn't be concerned. There is no way in the world that the Democrat party is going to NOT pass some sort of health care bill. The only question is whether or not the blue-dog Democrats will or won't be able to prevent it from having (A) a public option (B) zero controls on illegals (C) protections for current insurance plans (D) sufficient funding to actually pay its own enormous costs.

I know how to solve D). Take the majority of money from the Defense Department and give it to the Health Department. As for C), I think we should dissolve the insurance companies. All of them. They're bloated and useless. B) Why is everyone so panicked about illegals? Do they not contribute to our nation?

Read Hayek's Road to Serfdom. It has some conflicting concepts, but nevertheless it does an excellent job of explaining why it is inherently impossible to centralize these types of decision making processes.

No central planning body is physically or theoretically capable of processing the vast quantities of data needed to make informed, rational, moral/ethical, and economical determinations for everyone's health. It's intrinsically grossly inefficient, and therefore unsustainable. It may exist for a period, but it cannot remain. No outside opposition is necessary to bring it down. It will fall under it's own folly. You can hardly blame the "Democrats" for failing to make it work: no one can.

Every man must exert self control. This is freedom. Nothing more, and nothing less.

The real kicker is that the solutions to these perceived problems lies in the perception, or rather, the man who is perceiving. The source of the solution is entirely internal, and requires no external actors for an individual to be supremely immune from all these external harms. (Salvation does not lie in Society or Community.) Acceptance of these concepts however, can only be gained one who seeks to pull all responsibility upon himself. Humility helps.

Do not hate the Law. Embrace it.

This is the first time that I know of were an epic fail did not result in a win...

-small edit- DSM will now no longer be announced by the monster truck guy, it will be from Carol Channing.

A) To hell with the public option, we need a full blown NHS, like every other industrialized nation in the world.

B) I work around illegals several days a week. The majority of them are hard working people doing the jobs that American don't want to do for the wages they get. Home construction costs in Florida would double without them. Any time I hear anti-illegal ranting, all I hear is racism masquerading as concern.

C) Yeah we need to protect current plans, like the lady I was listening to last weekend talking about the 1000$ a month she was paying for insurance coverage. To hell with the insurance companies, they're a blight on this country and have been ever since Nixon allowed Kaiser Permanente to form.

D) Education and Health care should be the two most important social programs that our government should fund regardless of the cost. You know how you fund it? Taxation like everything else. My taxes go to fund military actions that kill innocent people, industrial subsidies that keep corporate profit margins high, abstinence only sex-ed and other faith based programs, endless reconstruction of highways, and a whole host of other programs that I personally disagree with. Why is it OK for me to have to pay taxes to fund these things that I dislike that do me and many others no good, yet when there is a program that will help every single citizen, it can't be allowed to be put into action because you and other conservatives don't like it?

It's the same hypocritical rhetoric we have come to expect from conservatives. "Taxes are bad for everything that we don't like. And because we don't like it we're gonna fight tooth and nail against it."
