Super Foam Inventor Takes Shovel Blows to the Head

From TGdaily: "A new super foam promises to protect athletes from impact and its inventor proved the point by taking a full force shovel hit to the head. Called D3O, the orange substance is soft and malleable, like Silly Putty, but becomes rigid when accelerated. D3O can be fashioned into clothing and in this case, a protective beanie that withstood a shovel hit from Sky News reporter Derek Tedder."

But its energy redistribution is very interesting. A composite product, using Teflon materials (or something else) to prevent the penetration of the bullet, and dissipation of energy from the gel, would be great. (bullet proof vests stop puncture damage but still hurt like hell).

I saw a documentary looking at the evolution of the bullet proof vest over the years, and one of the current challenges was reducing weight/increasing usability, and combining other forms of protection, eg, a Stab Vest. Some bullet proof vests are not good against knives
