Stalked by a Cougar

"Holy snappin' arseholes."

YouTube: Occurred on March 1, 2018 / Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada

"I was out on a walk looking for shed antlers and setting trail cameras. I looked down at a shed antler and was taking pictures when I felt something watching me. I looked up to see the cougar starring at me at 20 meters. I attempted to scare the cougar away 3 times. The cougar returned and finally, after a 3rd attempt I was able to slowly walk out of the area to safety, no cougars were harmed."

Fun Fact: This cougar is still hunting rabbits and deer for no other reason than he's 170 miles into an area where people tranquilize and truck him away from populated areas instead of bumpstocking 30 rounds of 5.56×45mm NATO through his falling corpse.

...not that there's anything wrong with that.

There's plenty wrong with decimating their natural habitats and then shooting them when they have nowhere else to look for food.

Animals might not understand how to write a contract but they understand territory very well.

We walk through their land and then we get upset if they aggressively defend it.

And the vast majority of this habitat loss is so someone can stick a cow on the land because that's what consumers are demanding. We're effectively replacing the planet's wonderful biodiversity with 5 animals and 5 types of crop to feed these farm animals. We must change our consumption habits, otherwise nature will change it for us in about 50 years.

Try not having kids then. Cutting your per capita consumption in half does less than nothing when you also double the number of consumers. The worst thing most people can do to nature is breed.

Absolutely agree with you, but if I can't convince someone intelligent like you to eat a plant-based diet, I don't like my chances att convincing Sharleen and Damien from having 5 kids :-)

The other thing is if you look at the consumption in Western civilisation, we use somethng like 80% of the resources, even though our populations are the smallest. Which would suggest it's mostly lifestyle related.

Thanks, but a life without bacon is not one I want to live. I know the risks and accept them. I know the costs and offset them.
You can still try to convince them. Maybe at least then they won't have 10. Idiocracy is prophetic, trick them into watching it.

My large but finite footprint with no kids is smaller than a Sudanese with 2 kids who each have 2 kids who each have two kids in perpetuity. In the short term, lifestyle changes might be useful (but nearly impossible to sell), but long term, absolutely nothing works but population control, so it's more important imo. Also, since having no children is self beneficial, it's easier to sell to the selfish.

The other problem is, even in a western nation 50% of births are accidental, I'm not really sure how that can be prevented short of sterilization, but the lefties would never allow that to happen.

Gotta tackle the issue from every side imo.

Most would call me a lefty, and I allowed it to happen to me. Condom free, baby free sex was an easy sell. Might want planned kids later? Freeze some swimmers. ;-)
Forced sterilization, yeah, that's a no go for most people.....for now.

True, good idea to work every angle to stand a chance of long term survival, but prioritize.
