Video Flagged Dead

So what if you had a seizure, we're busy dancing.

Wepwawetsays...

What? I didn't notice anything. Everything looked completely normal. Just a perfectly normal show. Yep. Nothing to notice there. Just people singing and dancing in a perfectly normal show.

For those who are terribly morally offended- you shouldn't be. skfourty nailed it- the show indeed must, and WILL go on. People have died, and the show went on.

I had an audience member die on me right before a Paul Anka concert, about 2 years ago. He had a fatal heart-attack in the lobby, right by the main-level entrance. All we did was put up a curtain around him and the show went on.

I had one performer break his wrist- he finished his scene without any of us backstage knowing. The show went on.

Probably the most extraordinary moment I can recall from my theatre career so far is when one of the principal performers had to leave the theatre during intermission. It turned out that her day-job was a sitting supreme-court judge here in BC. She was presiding in a murder trial, and the jury came back during Act 1! No understudy for the part, so luckilly we had the cast from another show rehearsing nearby. We pulled one of the actresses from there, put her in costume- which fit her perfectly- and the show went on, albeit with an extended intermission and an explanation to the audience as to why the character was all of a sudden 20 years younger than she had been only minutes prior.

The show always goes on.

Oh, and btw, other than the seizure in question, this video sux. How on earth does crap music like this ever get produced?

SnakePlisskensays...

Wow, blankman, when you put it like that I realise how heroic the performers were to ignore their friend as she spasmed helplessly on the floor! They knew how much the audience wanted to be entertained and they weren't gonna let a few horrified people's screaming stop them!

Thanks for putting into perspective for me. Yay showbiz!

Dude, you don't get it. Theatre people are doing it for themselves. We want the show to go on, we don't ever want it to be our fault that the show is stopped or cancelled.

I personally once became violently ill during a performance, and barely made it off the main stage before vomiting copiously. The show went on.

basicly theatre actors think its like some sort of chalenge to ceep going on in the face of adversity and some how think it makes them better actors. this might be corect if the stage falls down ore random crap is happaning as it often dose. but like everything you have to be relistick if sumone is retarding out on stage its better to help them. this clip made me chucle though evan though i thought it was sick. im a dmaged person

I'm with Snake. As an entertainer you have to pick up on those subtle cues your audience gives you that indicate they're not enjoying the show. Like... oh, I dunno... SCREAMING. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to clue in that the audience here did not find "the show must go on" particularly entertaining.

Wepwawetsays...

I can't speak for jPop (or kPop), but the SAG bylaws are very clear that the only time an actor can stop a performance is when catering supplies Aquafina when the performer quite clearly screamed "Evian," Domestic chocolates are placed on the performer's pillow instead of imported, and "that second-rate bitch's trailer is bigger than mine." Pausing a show by 30 seconds to remove someone in extreme distress so they could get immediately medical attention is explicitly forbidden. With strict punichment up too and includig being forced to appear a Disney movie starting in a Gilbert Gottfried, K-Fed, and Tim Allen flict.

Sure having someone flop around stage while everyone is ignoring her totally appalls the audience and renders them unable to connect to production of anything else, but hey, the show's gotta go one.

"Dude, you don't get it. Theatre people are doing it for themselves. We want the show to go on, we don't ever want it to be our fault that the show is stopped or cancelled."

I doubt the girl was thinking "I hope they don't stop the show on my account. I may be in a spot of difficulty at this particular moment in time, but I'm a born performer and well... The Show Must Go On!!"

I think it was probably closer to "OMFGWTFHELPHELPHELPHELPAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGHGHGGHH!!!"

The difference between a broken wrist and vomitting vs. seizure and heart attack are barely noticable to seasoned thesbians. Hello??!! Life threatening condition. You might want at least ONE person on stage get the person some help.

The are a hell of a lot more people at football games, and they even pause to evaluate injured players. So, I don't buy the whole, people want to be entertained, the show must go on, total crap. Besides, technically, if the show must go on, you want to remove the twitching semi-conscious people from the stage, they are distracting from the performance.

therealblankmansays...

Point 1:Ummmm, joedirt, they did send help- the stagehands got to her in about 20 seconds, and I guarantee that they're better equipped to help her than the talent.

Point 2: snake, I don't think someone in the throes of an epileptic seizure have anything going through their minds at the time, other than random bursts of bio-generated electricity.

Point 3: charlatantric: don't worry about westy, he doesn't speak english, despite apparently living in Great Britain somewhere, so how can we expect him to tell the difference between (closely related) ethnicities.

Point 4: This thread has the potential to be fun, I hope it doesn't get too ugly.

Let's put it this way. Which headline would you personally prefer to see out of the following, blankman?

A: "Teen singing group carries on with act while member has seizure on floor despite screams from audience"

B: "Teen singing group interrupts act while member receives medical attention, continues after assuring the audience that she's OK."

joedirtsays...

20 seconds could be the difference between losing a tounge or getting a brain injury from hitting your head. Anyways, if this happened in soccer, they would kick the ball out of bounds. I also saw her reaching up to another girl who tried to awkwardly keep dancing.

Actually upon further review.. it appears ONE dancer girl does try and drag her off stage right before people start running across stage.

personalzensays...

rickegee - that is hi-larious!!

PS people, it's LIVE THEATRE, shit happens, and it happens all the time. I bet some of those girls were so into the "moves" they did not even realize what happened, notice, the performers have been directed to stare off into the audience.

just my 2c

legacy0100says...

Holy shit. Bitches didn't know what to do!!!

pho3n1x has a point. However, Koreans arn't so much aware of what epilepsy is, nor the symptoms of it. Those girls probably thought the girl tripped or something and couldn't get up at first.

You ask any random Korean teenager these days (that are 100% Korean) and I'll guarantee you that the only seizures they're familiar with are some hardcore protestants being 'possessed' by the spirit of Jesus on TV.

Arghsays...

I really hope she apologized after the show. She's obviously interfering with the act. And the crew even dare to show up on camera! What a bunch of idiots, they should have waited for a commercial. (sarcasm... and it took over 25 seconds before anyone help her.)
