Incredible Two-Letter Puzzle Solve on Wheel of Fortune

charlatantric says...

I'll go ahead and call "conspiracy" on this one.

Not that the guy cheated. I believe the reactions were genuine. But I'll call shenanigans on the producers.

The only real advertising to the "internet generation" these shows can garner are viral videos. Jeopardy has been leading the way. The demographic for these shows are older crowds, and with slipping ratings/advertising, they must muck for gold.

There's something waaaay too strange about the way the answer suddenly flashes on-screen. No usual stop in music, dinging, or reaction from anyone. It's as if the producers ad-libbed the contestant's answer to make an amazing video. To sell to us to watch.

Or... the guy at the switch was harumphing, arms crossed, laughing at this kid trying to answer such a tough puzzle. Then having an "oh shit' moment.

I don't know. There's definitely something... off about it all though.

Group Work Kills Creativity & Brainstorming Doesn't Work

charlatantric says...

Yeah, he's also "borrowing" the English language and technology to make his point. What a witless chump. /sarcasm

Criticize the message, not the medium. Which I agree with, but I think he could have expanded on. And like the poster above, used more than Wozniak/Apple to make one anecdotal point. I would have focused more on the institutional oligarchy that carries huge influence and elicits unquestioned loyalty to earn our greatest minds access to all their tools, networking, and resources. Pity the focus is squarely on making more money and not healing the world.

You know the author of this video is full of shit when he lets other people do most of the work.. you know like... just randomly using someone elses pics pulled from google..

But then again that would prove his point that groupwork is bad for creativity..

55. Delete Facebook

charlatantric says...

This video makes some fair points to consider, but it's drowning in baseless assertions (i.e., actors on reality TV shows acting out in psychopathic ways that transform into social norms).

It's stuck up its own ass, failing to take a step back to view consumerism as merely a proxy by which those in power can hold on to it (much like religion, patriotism, etc.). We're not all sheeple, but we are all human and are prey to the natural tendencies that underly tribalism.

Facebook is just a courier (and the video makes mention of that fact, relating it to the argument "guns don't kill people; people kill people"). Which is quite ironic, given that the thesis misses the forest from the trees (sic).

Haven't logged in in years, but came to second The Music.

Don't let the one-hit wonder label fool you; they tear it up across all three albums they put out.

Can't recommend them enough; and sadly, I made an audible whimper when their name came up in the video.

however, there is a very nice alternative method that you should become familiar with to avoid that problem.

3rd Rock From The Sun - Tipping Like It Should Be

charlatantric says...

I've worked as a server for the past four years, and I won't get into the specifics of what's deserved vs. earned, etc., but I will point this out for those who aren't aware...

A percentage of our sales goes to other workers in the restaurant (bartender, food runner, busser, host, etc.), which is roughly around 5% ($5 out of every $100 we sell). So, as an example that nearly had me quit my job, this party left me a $10 tip on a $360 bill. So I had to reach into my coffers to dole out the rest of the tip-share. Working one's ass off for a net loss. It happens.

One more thing: if you're getting free appetizers, desserts, or using coupons, unless it was specifically the server's fault, please remember to include a tip on the assumed full amount. As an example, a party of 10 came in and were underquoted a wait time of over an hour, so we got them a free round of drinks and appetizers. When all was said and done, their bill was $310-$160=$150. They left me a $25 tip. Which is pretty fantastic for a $150 bill, but really crummy for $310 worth of service (that, don't forget, includes bussers, food runners, bartenders, etc.).

Just a general head's up if you care to remain conscientious about something that most people don't really realize.

Indictments are easy to hand out, and the internet soapbox is free, but please, imbue further wisdom on how we can be more like you.

Not the net vote total, the number of upvotes. Simply making the point that my viewpoint was quite popular despite assertions otherwise that labeled me both a troll and asshole.

My "belligerence" is simply holding a mirror up to my lambasters. Calling out "troll" is the new troll, n'est-ce-pas?

(And actually MarineGunrock's comment also has 5 votes. I guess trolls are bad at math too. )

6 upvotes (1 downvote) vs. 5 upvotes. Most upvotes. 6 > 5.

You really have a way of knowing how to get your ass handed to you.

What did you not understand about about my last statement? It's a fake, obviously.

See, I think you're backpedaling here. You, after all, did label it 1sttube.

And actually, yes, it's hard for me to laugh at staged material, especially under the guise of being genuine. I laugh all the time at pratfalls in the gamut of comedies I watch or when it happens live before my eyes, but when a video pretends to be something it isn't, it loses all its charm, and is considerably unfunny to me.

What is fun for me is breaking down the video on what specifically tipped me off. It's a fun analysis. Apparently I'm not the only one (it's the most upvoted comment).

I think the issue here might be your intolerance for people who don't share your sense of humor.

So I'm not just a troll, I'm also an asshole?

This is what I wrote:

Fake.

From the lack of production value to the poor framing to the lack of channel to the unnecessary fade to the rainbow screen.

So if I understand you correctly, these qualitative observations constitute assholery?
