I thought Rush was laughing at the incredulity of the idea of god punishing Japan.

Rush is quoting some environnut dimwit who is actually called in real life and complained because Japan has done all these wonderful green things, and yet still got hammered by earthquakes. So Rush is laughing at the idiot's opinion and how ridiculous it is. He's not laughing at Japan.

Best I can figure out is Rush is mocking those who think by recycling they're helping prevent natural disasters. Cenk isn't as bad a some of the other outlets, he does explain people recycle for reasons that have nothing to do with appeasing an earth god. He does fall for the bait of trying to paint Rush as someone who thinks Earth is punishing Japan.

That doesn't mean Rush wasn't being an insensitive dick. Reading Pennypacker's link its clear Rush feels recycling is a waste of time because its not cost effective. And he seems to be taking an inordinate amount of glee in the fact the Japanese were very Earth conscious and now many of their cities are buried under mud rubble and dead bodies. They have clearly wasted their time and money trying to appease Gaia. As Cenk pointed out, not why the Japanese people recycle.

In the transcript Rush mentioned NYC shutting down its glass and plastic recycling because it was costing too much. From what I understand NYC now has to ship all of its garbage out of state, or at least far away from the city because its landfills are full. This has increased the cost of waste management and made recycling glass and plastic cost effective in NYC again. To Rush's credit apparently the old recycling program was poorly run and a lot of the recyclables ended up in the landfills anyways.

Don't believe me find out which American Newspaper or Network reported the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health findings of Cancer victims and infant mortality in Fallujah Iraq due to American forces using uranium shells. I love it, bloated fat drug addicted hypocritical liar Rush is an "Icon of conservatism", certainly he must be the pinacle of 'conservative' ideals and ideas today. I agree, his comments here may be taken out of context here, and he may well be laughing at idiots that believe that your actions determine the reactions of 'god' (or gay-a, freudian slip Rush?). It's funny, he doesn't seem to realize that that is a major tennant of Christianity, (that god is watching and cares what you do, and will punish or reward you for it at some time) and I don't think he meant to publicly degrade and denegrate the tennants of Christianity, collateral damage sucks, huh?
That said, turnabout is fair play. Rush consistantly mis quotes and mis represents anyone that does not agree with him 100%, faux news style, and rarely if ever retracts his lies. Now you're crying him a river because it has been done to him.

I find the actual context to put Mr. Limbaugh's comments in a harsher light. He is not laughing at the disaster happening in Japan, but he is enjoying the irony of a disaster happening in Japan.

It seems appallingly insensitive to me.

This is the very next thing Rush says after this clip, in which he's praising the caller for his insight:

"What kinda payback is this? That is an excellent question. They invented the Prius -- and, in fact, where Gaia blew up is right where they make all these electric cars. That's where the tsunami hit. All those brand-new electric cars are sitting there on the lot. I like the way this guy was thinking. It's like Gaia hit the Prius and Leaf plants. Like @blackoreb said, he's laughing at the perceived irony.

None of this, however takes away from the fact that since Cenk moved to MSNBC he's become a lefty attack dog as full of misinformation and misrepresentation as the ones on the right. Too bad. He's great when he's not on MSNBC.
