Story behind this film:

An unknown filmmaker from Uruguay has been given $30m by Hollywood studio bosses - to turn his $500 YouTube video of a giant robot invasion into a movie. Would-be director Federico Alvarez, who runs a post-production visual effects house in Uruguay, filmed 'Panic Attack' with a budget of just $500 in his free time. The five minute clip - which he then uploaded to YouTube - shows an invasion of Montevideo by giant robots and had special effects which could rival many big budget movies.

Once online it got the attention of thousands of movie fans… and (not surprisingly) studio bosses who wanted to meet with Alvarez to talk about his movie. The 30-year-old was whisked to LA where he was offered a $1 million directors fee and up to £30 million to make the film, by Mandate Pictures. The plans for the movie are said to have a "compelling original story" beyond big robots blowing stuff up. Alvarez has also been put up in a new apartment, given a new car and will work with "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi on developing the film.

I liked the Eisentein reference. But this was little more than a blow-up fest with excellent CG. I'll be curious as to how they adapt it onto the big screen, and how it turns out. Keep in mind a lot of great movies have stemmed from shortfilms, including 9, District 9, Sin City, Napoleon Dynamite, Saw, etc. etc.

How would pictures tell you how good I am at animation? I have over 10 years of experience on a variety of TV and direct to video projects.

The giant robots show their mass by stomping their feet, it's silly and it doesn't really give a proper sense of massiveness. I could critique it point by point and tell you how I'd do better but there's no point really.

Totally let down by the music , and terrible sound production.

funny as its really not that hard to make/source good sound fx. I don't understand using this music as there is plenty of original and free music that would work better than this track.

visual effects were good though , some of the camera shots were good , kids acting was a bit pore at the start (could have been fixed in editing) but other than that visually worked well.
