From LiveLeak:
You call people by what they accept, not by what they dont.
In this sense the word atheist is redundant.
I accept physical evidence and reasoned logic (PEARL), the core of the scientific method.
It has made our standard of life vastly better.
It has also delivered us incredible destructive power. In a society like this those who act on faith (without evidence) are an increasing hazard to us all.
The power that science delivers us must be wielded responsibly, else there will be noone left to discuss the folly.
Doomsday, end of times Christians like PCS (posterboy for creationist stupidity) lust and desire the end of the world.
Religion such as this in a society such as ours is simply a recipe for disaster.

EDDsays...Think 'atheist' has a negative connotation in English-speaking countries?
Where I come from, while it's spelled almost the same (ateists), its meaning is exactly as if one said 'toilet-ist' in English.
budzossays...AMEN!
chilaxesays..."Pearlist" is an interesting term, but this video appears to the first source to advance the idea.* "Rationalist," on the other hand, is an accurate term that already has broad recognition.

drattussays...I'd know that voice anywhere, that's Thunderf00t. He's a bit of a character in the YouTube atheist community and forced a top young earth type there to post a groveling apology or go to court and maybe to jail some time back. He apologized. False DMCA complaints and slander are a bad idea, even if you do think you work for God.
You can get the original version of this on YouTube, has a HD version there so might be better quality. He's got some play lists worth checking out too on his account.

gorillamansays...Surely the correct term for a FSM-rejectionist is antipastafarian? If the body of christ was prosciutto, I might start going to church.
joedirtsays...LOL.. RObert Oppenheimer disagrees with your thunderf00ts last sentence.
Psychologicsays...So what do you call someone who doesn't believe in labels?
8727says...if people were shoving in your face about believing in fairies and attempting to change government policies, and children's education around it.. then you'd feel the need to call yourself one of the people that don't believe in those fairies. same with the need for the atheists, gotta counter the claptrap.
drattussays...I don't think he was arguing against the need for atheists, matter of fact I'm pretty sure he wasn't He's the author of a 29 part (so far) series called "Why do people laugh at creationists?" We've got a couple of them posted here I'm pretty sure.

I think the effort was more in reducing the power of the label, it's used as a weapon too often. As EDD mentioned above it has a "negative connotation" in most places. It might be useful to explore ways to defuse that and turn it around on them, I think that's more what he was getting at. We'll never be able to "prove" God doesn't exist but as Potholer54 closed his origin of life made easy video with if we've got natural explanations for how things could have happened then when where or why would anything else have needed to step in? In the end it's not a matter of faith, it's a detective trail.
Fadesays...Not sure I really want to say this cos I love thunderfoot but he is completely missing the point. Atheist is a term used to describe people who do not believe in God/Gods. You are either a believer or you aren't. Each needs a description. Believers in God/Gods are theist, non believers are atheists. There isn't any other way to define the differences between the two groups. So how is the term atheist redundant? His logic is flawed.
