Reactions to Meteorologist That Was Told To Cover Up On Air

Via YouTube: Los Angeles meteorologist Liberté Chan was taken aback when one of her colleagues suggested that she wear a sweater by holding it up on screen during a segment. Apparently the station was “getting a lot of emails” about her attire. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down.

You have got to be F*ing kidding me.
Who the hell thought that was inappropriate? Why? Because it showed shoulders? There was no cleavage, no midriff, no upper thigh, no ass hanging out...what could they possibly be complaining about? Did she need to be wearing a burka in their eyes?
There was absolutely nothing inappropriate about her dress, and to capitulate on air to some (likely hyper-religious) idiots that complained is horrendous of the management. Whoever made this decision should be fired.

Can't tell you how much I agree with you.

Isn't the implication of this comment that it would be acceptable to order her to cover up if she was wearing something that WE found inappropriate? It seems to me that a lot of the people who'll join the outrage on this one would behave exactly the same if their personal foibles were tweaked.

No, amidst the usual directionless YT rambling, Ananana said it right: I'll wear what I want and fuck you if you don't like it.

First up, "directionless YT rambling".... agree so much. This show really needs an editor. "concise" is not a bad word, guys!

As for the rest of the comment, much as I don't like it personally, employers have a right to set a reasonable standard of dress, especially if your job is public facing. So yeah, if she turned up to present the weather topless or something, I think they could reasonably ask her to cover up.

Personally, I think people in general need to get the fuck over our collective hangup about nudity (and especially the idea that strangers of the same gender can see you naked, but those of a different gender can't, i.e. changing rooms etc).

But that's not the way the world works at the moment.

To be fair, she's got really sexy shoulders.

I didn't watch this, since I find The Young Turks unbearable to listen to.

Did they include the information that the sweater was a joke? I can't find the clip now, but she made one talking about how the sweater was a joke between co-workers, that they do stuff all the time to rib each other.

When I first saw the clip, I had a similar reaction -- a cocktail dress for a morning show? Like wearing a formal gown to a sock hop. Weird.

But no reason to lose one's shit and send emails. Jeesh.

This isn't what I saw a couple of days ago, but it shows the support and disgust of her co-workers.

This, my friends, is the downside to the internet. Instantaneous outrage has an outlet. Tempest in a teacup. Hell. Tempest in a teaspoon.
