Nephelimdreamsays...I feel your pain, son, I feel your pain.
lucky760says...One of the reasons I had two kids as close as possible in age is so that they'd be able to have one another.
I always feel bad for each of my older son's friends who is an only child and always desperate to have more play time together when it's time to part and depart.
newtboysays...Good for you. My brother is 3.5 years older than me, a terrible spread. It was older enough that he was always 1.5 times my size, but close enough that he was never reprimanded for beating up on 'little kids' when he abused me. It left me wishing I was an only child.
Be sure to keep an eye out for that, and don't expect the abused to tell you...in my case it was made clear that reporting abuse only caused more abuse, with no consequence.

lucky760says...Thanks for the insight. That's interesting and hearing stuff like that is helpful.
We always insist that they treat each other appropriately and lay down the law if either one is ever disrespectful or hurtful of the other. That's not to say no brotherly abuse will ever happen, but we are definitely making a concerted effort to provide an environment and also brainwashing to assist in bonding them together and making assaults on one another feel foreign and undesired.

messengersays...A friend of mine foresaw the same issues but chose a different strategy: he intentionally had his two kids 5 years apart to avoid rivalry and so the older one would take care of the younger one. Seems to have worked out well so far.
