Neighbor Thwarts Stepfather's Abuse Over Poorly Thrown Ball

Dad deserves to be punished. However that is the worst eyewitness ever. Why is he quoting the father saying "football" over and over and the video shows them playing baseball, mitts and all. Posting the video and giving interviews? He sounds like he wants his 15 mins of fame. He even says "once I found out who he was" like he was really impressed at this bigwig that he outed. Maybe Water Dept Officials are like rock stars in that shithole dryland. (nice lush yard , Mr Water Bigwig).

You know, I almost saw this as another "why doesn't the camera man do something besides film" sort of thing, but when they explained the context afterwards, I too may have acted the same way. He got the film he needed, intervened personally, and called the police.

What is the physical pain of a belt slap compared to the social pain of ridicule for throwing a ball like a girl?

But seriously, It's curious how physical punishment is immediately taken for abuse these days. We don't know if he was hitting hard or often enough to injure the kid physically/psychologically.

I'm not a father, I was raised with physical punishment, but I personally don't agree with it, totally unnecessary. *Maybe* in extreme cases when you have to let the child feel the pain for screwing up, but ideally you don't want to let the situation get to that point. I also don't agree with him hitting the kid for throwing a ball poorly.

That being said, as long as there's no serious physical abuse, who are we to judge how he should raise his kid? Human beings are violent by nature, our society is violent, and boys, specially, have to learn how to deal with violence growing up. Is it right to expect raising a child not to involve violence EVER? Specially today with these kids running their mouths off to their parents, throwing tantrums like little dipshits and... throwing balls like little girls!

Even if the physical violence isn't "abuse", what about the verbal abuse? Not criminal, but goddamn dad, why are you such a prick? Your son's gonna have the same issues that you grew up with, but I guess that's the point. Give your kids insecurities so that they can overcompensate like you did -- or wish you did.

Oh, please. Oscar Lopez needs to get his ass beat. Amazing what passes for "child abuse" nowadays.

I've known people who had CPS called on them for the most inane shit imaginable. Both times, it was an Hispanic female who called the laws on Caucasians and both times in public places. Fucuking Roman Catholics with low IQ's is what he the fuck that was.

Intelligence is not derived from the threat of physical punishment. I'll take positive reinforcement every time when it comes to situations like learning how to throw a fucking ball. Spank your kid for running into traffic or pointing a toy gun at his grandmother, fine, but learning how to throw a ball? I bet there's no more sure-fire way to get your kid to hate you.>> ^chingalera:

The best comment I ever read on child abuse was one pointing out you rarely see someone hit their kid in a calmly calculated and rational manner. It's almost always a stressed/unstable parent losing their shit and lashing out, then rationalising it afterwards as being for the kid's benefit.

And hey, if the price of stopping the psychos that beat the crap out of their kids is that a better parent can't put their kids over their knee, then I'm not going to lose any sleep.
